HAP Alaska Yukon - Skagway

To kick off the school year for Skagway School District, our HAP team in Alaska welcomed 100 students and parent/teacher chaperones aboard Noordam and Nieuw Amsterdam for an immersive afternoon of education and fun.

The back-to-school field trips, held over two days in August, gave the students an inside look at operations aboard our ships. This provided a unique experience for these children from one of Alaska's most popular cruise ports.

The groups of 5th to 12th-grade local students were treated to full-service lunch, a meet and greet with the ships’ captains, and special activities and tours of the two ships during their port calls in Skagway. The students also had the chance to visit the bridge and the ship’s engine control room.

During the ship tours, the students explored the different onboard departments. They learned firsthand about the experiences onboard, environmental responsibilities and initiatives, and careers and job opportunities at sea.

Driving a large motor coach, while sharing stories, information and jokes is no easy task. But our Driver/Guides do it daily with great professionalism. So proud of this team.

We can’t say enough good things about this amazing group of people. It might be a small team, but it’s mighty. Lead by our irreplaceable Guest service Manager James this team rocks. Not only do they take great care of our highway guests, they make dreams come true getting us out and experiencing Skagway on adventures.

The ones that do the heavy lifting 🛄

This crew starts work at 6am - 6 days a week to get our guests’ luggage to their coaches headed out of town. 6 days a week they bring bags directly to guests rooms when they arrive in town.
On embark/disembark days they haul hundreds of bags going in all directions.

Always willing to help. Never complaining. The luggage crew is a true pleasure to work with. ✨ very proud of this strong team.

The ones that organize the chaos and keep us bussin’ 🚎😎

Communicating with ships, vendors, and our drivers. Creating the game plans (dispatches/flows). Sorting out issues as they arise. Making sure we’re all zoned out and home safely.

This team learned the operations quickly and that’s no easy task. They work really hard to make sure things run smoothly and everyone has the best experience possible with the day.

Our fleet detailers are awesome! This crew has worked extremely hard to keep us looking good this season. Rain or shine they are always ready to get the job done with a smile. Shout out to Dan who came in and took a supervisory roll at the wash pad making sure they were organized and stocked.

These guys work hard keeping the drivers and passengers safe. They put their nose down and get things done but we still make time to laugh!
Alice keeps us stocked and organized with everything the shop needs to perform. If it wasn’t for her hard work we wouldn’t be able to get things done at all! -Paul

Yesterday, Saturday May 28th, was our first turn around day. What does that mean?

We disembarked guests from the Zuiderdam to head out on land adventures. Some will be staying with us in Skagway for a day or two before heading out. Some took the train and started their highway adventures soon after.

We also embarked guests that already had their highway fun so that they could now enjoy their cruise.

Guest services were out in full force, luggage was heading in all directions, local drivers and highway drivers a like were out and about and the dock reps were still seeing off local day tours. It was a full team affair including the lovely team from the Zuiderdam.

When there’s repeater issues we send up the big guns.

Our shop is awesome. Problem solved.
