Renovations are already underway for the next set of schools ahead of the 2024 intake.

Trading and investing: What’s the difference?🤔

Crypto newcomers often get these two terms mixed up. So, let’s learn the difference.

↪️ The two are quite distinguishable: Trading is short-term investments, and investing is the same but for the long term

Traders open and close a lot of deals in a single day. For instance, they buy a cryptocurrency only to sell it a few hours later to lock in a profit.

➡️ Trading is highly time-consuming—and can fray a lot of nerves😄

Investing, meanwhile, focuses on the long game. Investors usually analyze a project’s fundamentals while considering its potential in the market. Thus, investors buy a digital asset specifically to hold it for a long time, from a few months to a few years or longer

✔️In short, investing is a better strategy for crypto beginners than trading.

However, neither of these strategies insulates you from losses. Always remember to invest at your own risk!

The main kinds of cryptocurrencies

Depending on how you look at it, cryptocurrencies can be divided into two to 10 categories.

Today, we’ll go over the three most common cryptocurrency categories:

1. Bitcoin 💰

The world’s first-ever cryptocurrency, Bitcoin (BTC) was created by the pseudonymous entity Satoshi Nakamoto. It’s the most popular crypto in the world and has already become a household name. Its market capitalization is higher than its next closest competitor, Ether (ETH), by 2.5 times.

2. Altcoins 💰💰💰💰💰

Traditionally, all cryptocurrencies that were created after Bitcoin are called altcoins. Examples of altcoins include Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), BNB (BNB), and Cardano (ADA). Developers and teams create altcoins to explore their endless possibilities and functions unavailable on the Bitcoin network.

It’s worth noting that Bitcoin’s market capitalization is equal to all other altcoins in the top 20 combined—another aspect showing Bitcoin’s dominance in the crypto market.

3. Stablecoins 💰💰💰💰💰

These are altcoins created to hold a stable value. Stablecoins are usually backed by a fiat currency (or other cryptocurrencies sometimes) to keep their price at $1. Some of the most popular stablecoins are Tether (USDT), USD Coin (USDC), and Dai (DAI), whose value is always equal to 1 United States dollar.

Stablecoins have become a convenient option for international money transfers, money settlements, and locking in profits among investors and traders.

However, please note that no stablecoin is guaranteed to keep its peg to the U.S. dollar; stablecoins can also crash and lose their value (case in point: TerraUSD). Therefore, stablecoins also carry their own set of risks.

💭Of course, there are many more cryptocurrency categories — e.g., utility tokens, privacy coins, and governance tokens, to name a few. We’ll discuss these in a future post.

RATING OF NFT-PLATFORMS 🫙

Over the year 2022, competition between the leading NFT platforms has intensified dramatically. Even despite the strong decline in activity in the NFT & Metaverse sector, new projects, including marketplaces and aggregators, continue to enter the market.

🔤 Market Situation:
In 2020, the NFT market was valued at $100 million, and by the end of 2022, it had grown 122 times to $12.2 billion. In Q1 2022, NFTs performed incredibly well, reaching a peak trading volume of more than $800 million in a single week. Beginning in June, however, a "gloom" came to the market that continues to this day.

🔵OpenSea's sales volume on the Ethereum blockchain fell to $450 million in December. To be clear, trading volume was $2.6 billion in May and peaked at $4.8 billion in January. But despite this, OpenSea is still the dominant player, monopolizing ~60% of the market.

🔴New projects are constantly arriving on the market and trying to take their place under the sun, among which there are NFT-aggregators. One such project is Blur. Fully launched in October 2022, it is already leading the way in terms of trading volume. The aggregator has attracted a lot of excitement thanks to its airdrop, which culminated in the distribution of the BLUR token. The distribution will be made among the users who actively traded on the site and bid on collections.

🔵If we bring up the issue of commissions, currently the most profitable site with only 0.5% commission per sale is X2Y2. In comparison, OpenSea is 2.5%, MagicEden and LooksRare are 2%.
