Brooklyn voters back Trump and Rep. Jerry Nadler’s GOP opponent 07/11/2020

Of course, it would’ve been nice if the NY Post covered my campaign before the election.
And quoted me correctly...

I said when the city is headed towards bankruptcy, I didn’t think it made sense to put homeless men with substance abuse and psychiatric issues in a neighborhood hotel that cost $350 a room when they would be better housed in empty hotels at Laguardia and JFK for 1/4 of the price. And putting 14 s*x offenders, (13 of them child rapists) at the Hotel
Belleclaire within 1000 feet of two playgrounds and three schools showed very little consideration for the community.

Cathy Bernstein | Home 01/08/2020

I'm Cathy Bernstein, a lifelong New Yorker running against Jerry Nadler in NY’s 10th Congressional district.

I have lived on the UWS for the past 35 years, and am watching the city decline again due to the progressive policies of Congressman Nadler and Mayor de Blasio.

As a hardworking mom and CPA, I have devoted decades to social activism ideals through various political, religious, and civic-based community groups.

New Yorkers are fed up with the assault on our quality of life by career politicians. While Nadler plays politics in DC, hardworking taxpayers in NYC suffer and pay the price. As your next Congresswoman, I will fight hard every day on Capitol Hill to improve the lives of NYers.

Please read below to see a brief outline of my issues:

Crime is out of control. Overall, in the first three months of NYC, there were 2500 more felonies than last year. Car thefts (65%), robberies (25.2%), & burglaries (21.9%) have all increased significantly. Not included in these #'s is the looting of closed stores, a 75% increase.

Nadler's response to the Covid19 crisis in NYC was to insist that the convicted prisoners should be released. Now, 1500 prisioners were let out in NYC and 329 were involved w/violent felonies!

Our brave NYPD are already overwhelmed without the release of more prisoners. Thousands of police are out sick and too many have died from Covid19. We should be trying to help the police limit their exposure, not making their job more difficult! Where will the newly released prisoners go...many having been exposed to the virus & homeless shelters are full.

We have one of the largest homeless populations in the country, with over 60,000 people living in squalor and despair. NYC received an "F" rating in 2019 by the Coalition for the Homeless.

Nadler has been silent on this issue. However, he has "led a delegation to inspect ICE detention facilities containing separated families". I challenge him to pay a visit to his own district...witness our homeless living in filth & having psychotic breakdowns on the street.

Citizens also have a right to a safe environment where there is not aggressive panhandling, homeless encampments, and public urination/defecation.

We need to compassionately help the homeless to move off the streets to affordable housing, drug & alcoholic treatment centers, safer shelters, and psychiatric hospitalization.

Housing in NYC is sky high. In the 10th Congressional, more than 1/2 of the population are renters. I am promoting a 10% Federal Rent Tax Deduction for families making under $100,000 AGI to help with the ever-increasing cost of living in NYC.

Eliminate the $10,000 Cap on SALT Taxes that hurt NYers and erode property value. We already pay some of the highest taxes in the U.S. Those in Congress should be arguing for what is best for their constituents, regardless of party affiliation. Nadler opposes the President at every step, but has done surprisingly very little to offset our steep tax burden.

NYC needs major capital improvements to its aging infrastructure.
Nadler says he has "long focused on improving NYC's Infrastructure. " However, a recent 2018 ranking of the Worst Infrastructure puts NYC as the 7th worst city in the U.S.

Decades of underfunding our infrastructure, increased building by developers and a population that keeps growing has taken a toll on our city. Blackouts, flooding in the subways and streets, subway software glitches, water main breaks, and bridges in disrepair .

In regards to schooling, I am a big believer in “Our children, Our Choice”. Private, Yeshivas, and Catholic Schools object to having the Gov't dictate to them the do's and don'ts of their own curriculum's. Parents are entitled to choose an education for their children consistent w/their traditions & religious beliefs.

Keep the SPHS Test! This test is race & color blind and based solely on one's merits. More than 40% of the students from Bronx Science & Stuyvesant are low income and yet these two schools produced 12 Nobel Laureates.

Raise the caps on charter schools. 10% of all public-school students in NYC attend charter schools and over 91% of the students are either Hispanic or African American. The Golden Ticket requires waiting lists and lottery tickets that your child will gain a spot.

The 10th Congressional has the largest Jewish district in the U.S.
In Congress, we are witnessing anti-Semitic remarks aimed at perpetuating age old stereotypes and questioning our patriotism to the U.S.

Today in our own community, we are seeing hate crimes against individuals that are visually Jewish. Resources need to be dedicated annually to an increased police presence in neighborhoods.
