John Parkes Acoustic
Songer / singwriter...tries to writer proper songs...sings, plays acoustic guitar, plays the odd gig, based in Leeds, records stuff, releases it...
Acoustic singer songwriter in the 'I've got stuff to say, actually' tradition. Sees life as a metaphor for music and doesn't regard music as 'entertainment'.
Apparently "the politics of the subcontinent are currently playing out on the streets of Leeds” according to Nigel Farage. Well, I'm at home if he'd like to debate that. I can be on Harehills Road in 5 minutes if he'd like to talk to people himself. WTF does he know about Harehills the ignorant, sh*t stirring twonk?
Hey rock and roll kids...Wearing my electric guitar face I / we are looking for a guitar player for a 'project' (which kind of means a band that intend to record stuff but may be limited in doing the other 'band stuff' that you might think of...) Here's the advert for you to admire / slag off / pass on...
"Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist, Drummer & Bass Player seek Lead Guitarist for recording project.
We’re starting with songs written by the Songwriter with everyone else coming up with their own parts and everyone contributing to the arrangements – though other approaches are also OK. We need someone who is creative, wants to be involved in crafting the song and who is of a decent standard of playing.
We don’t need a huge amount of commitment so this could be a second project for someone already in a band. We intend to practise about once a fortnight in Leeds.
Ideally we need someone with their own gear and transport, as we hope to record quite soon
Rough mixes of some tracks with vocals, guitar, bass & Garageband auto drums :- https://soundcloud.com/matt-clark-174/tracks. The drum parts for these may change as we now have a drummer, and any Guitar noodling on them we are not precious about.. They just help give a feel for the songs.
Reply to this advert or contact [email protected] for more details."
Wondering how mad Nigel Farage's 'emergency election announcement' will be. I'm currently going for 'very'...
Good afternoon! Back to videoing for the first time in ages. It's not BB but that is all we've got time for...
I've probably posted something like this recently but this is our kind of 'official advert' for a drummer. The songwriter is me! The picture that comes up below is Matt the bass player...It's a side project and all being well other moosic things continue...But if you know someone please send them along, with love from you to me - or something...Ta. They can do Messenger messaging or email [email protected]
Hello – here’s an advert for a drummer for you…
Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist and Bass Player seek Drummer for recording project.
We’re starting with songs written by the guitarist with everyone else coming up with their own parts and everyone contributing to the arrangements – though other approaches are also OK. We need someone who is creative, wants to be involved in crafting the song and who is of a decent standard of playing.
We're not young (40s/50s) So any Drummer who can play is welcome. We don’t need a huge amount of commitment so this could be a second project for someone already in a band. We intend to practise about once a fortnight in Leeds.
Ideally we need someone with their own gear and transport and we hope to record quite soon
Music is kind of lively, melodic indie / alternative rock but we have home demos we can send you which hopefully make it clear – or have a listen here:

Not only do Travelodge think it's payday but they think I have 'besties' and should 'treat them to a break away'. Aren't besties some kind of dog?
I'm looking for a drummer for a er, project I suppose I'd call it. Not fallen out with anyone or left any bands or anything but 're-connected' with a bass player from some time back...The music would be lively guitar based indie-rock I suppose to use what's probably a dated term. Would probably sound a bit like early Whole Sky Monitor (and hey, everyone knows them, right?!) For now it'd be a three piece but a 'lead guitar' player might also be a good idea.
I guess they'd likely be er, 'experienced' and have done recording and whatnot. So if anyone would like to send the perfect person my way? We have some rough demos we can send 'em...Ta

So I've recently joined the Dull Men's Club on Facebook. Turns out it's all far more interesting than any of the alien / flat earth / UFO / giant skeletons / Trumpy Trumpington / conspiracy stuff that pops up as an alternative...
Doesn't get much better than this...

Stuck in my head now
Last call for the first ever Sunny Smiles Three gig at the Packhorse Woodhouse Lane Leeds as part of the Cloth Cat open mic night. You can come and watch or do a short turn yourself and then watch (or go home before we're on if you fancy) - it's free in.
Thursday 17th November (that's tomorrow at the present time)
Unless you were there you missed the JP solo 3 song performance at the Cloth Cat open mic last week. But by way of compensation It's just over a week to the first Sunny Smiles Three gig ever. That's me in a band fact fans...And who knows how many more there might be given the way things go.
So...be there or be somewhere else as they say -
Thursday 17th November at the Packhorse Woodhouse Lane Leeds. It's part of the Cloth Cat open night so you can come on down and do a couple of songs yourself. Or a poem. Or you know, whatever...
Seems I neglected to post this onto this page previously - by the mysterious Electric Flea Show...
The Electric Flea Show - Connected (ft. John Parkes) A series of not quite random images illustrating the song Connected.
So...it was off to Pocklington yesterday to see the legendary Loudon Wainwright III at the Arts Centre. Went to an Italian for tea. And who should walk in but the man himself. They turned him away as they were full. Went over and said he could sit with us. He politely turned us down as he was trying to learn his stuff for the gig later. Just like me! At the door to the exam knowing that it's too late to revise but trying it anyway.
Reminded me of this:
Loudon Wainwright - I Eat Out Only known clip showing Loudon wearing a Loudon Wainwright T Shirt. Recorded on 9th October 1987. Sorry about the quality of this ultra rare clip, This so...

Finally, I have an instrument that you tune with a hammer. I'd like to report that it's the size of a Vauxhall Victor. But it's not. It's smaller.
Well, seems I have my first gig in ages coming up - been invited to support the brilliant Cud band on Saturday 30th October at the Thunderbolt in Bristol (124 Bath Rd, Totterdown, Bristol BS4 3ED since you ask). Planning to mainly play solo versions of (as yet) unreleased Sunny Smile Three songs.
