Our Wagga Wagga Takes 2 journey came to end end this evening with the cheque presentation to the 10 charities involved in the 2023 event.

It was so special to be joined by Summer Lawson who handed our cheque over to three amazing nurses (representing the Wagga Pediatric Ward) who personally cared for her brother Nate during his illness.

The tears have flowed on many occasions throughout this journey and they resurfaced again tonight. We are so grateful for this experience and incredibly proud of the money and awareness we have raised collectively for our charities this year.

Thank you to all of the people who have supported and followed us and to the Wagga Takes Two committee for adopting me into their family ❤️

Our second major fundraising event to raise awareness and funds for the Paediatric Ward at Wagga Base Hospital took place on Saturday night.

Adult ticket holders borrowed their children’s super hero capes from our ‘Multi School Superhero M***i Day’ fundraiser event that took place the day prior, and attended the ‘Capes for Nate’ Silent Auction Dinner at the Rules Club.

34 online auction items, donated from local and regional businesses, individuals, athletes and sporting teams, were bid on throughout the night, raising much needed funds for the childrens ward.

During the evening we heard from two local mothers, Mrs Naomi Richards and Mrs Kelly Lawson about their experiences with the Paediatric Ward at Wagga Base with their children, Milla and Nate 🌈.

Ms Cassie Styles, nurse unit manager of the paed ward, raised our awareness on how important community charity fundraising efforts are so that new equipment, specialised education, and more resources can be attained which increases the health outcomes of OUR children.

The Hon Bronwyn Taylor, NSW Minister for Regional Health, Minister for Mental Health and Minister for Women spoke (without a microphone!) about the importance and strength of regional communities and how small actions can have big impacts.

We laughed, we cried, we sang, we danced, we raised money and awareness.

We honoured our super hero Nate who watched from his rainbow 🌈 in the sky.

I felt so proud to be a part of the Wagga Wagga community on Saturday night.

Hello everyone!!

Please follow this page and support Nathan, myself and our dedicated fundraising committee to raise awareness and money for our charity - Wagga Base Paediatric Ward.

Being part of Wagga Takes Two 2023 is a huge privilege. Nathan and I feel so proud the be involved in a wonderful event that supports our local community.

We both feel grateful not to have required the services of the Children’s Ward personally for our own children. However, we know of one particular family, the Lawson’s, that spent hours, days and weeks receiving care and treatment in the paediatric ward for their cherished son Nate Lawson.

Nate was the first child diagnosed in Australia with SIOD - Schimke Immuno Osseous Dysplasia. Nate grew up in Wagga with his sister Summer and parents, Kelly and Gary Lawson. Sadly, Nate’s diagnosis was terminal and after a long and challenging super hero battle, Nate passed away on the 22nd May, 2022.

Nate is our inspiration and motivation for this journey. 🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈 🌈

It is our hope that the money raised through our Wagga Takes Two journey will enable the Children’s Ward to purchase much needed equipment that will assist other kids, just like Nate, in the future.
