When we first booked Mirazur I honestly assumed we would be eating more fish, and was surprised that there were only two fish courses our of the nine-course tasting menu. However, the main fish course was a masterpiece. The delicate Bonito with black garlic, lily bulb, and liquorice hollandaise impatiently raced from my fork to gullet at a speed which inspired comments from every one of my dining companions. They had never seen me eat a dish so fast. “That was my second favourite after the Mushroom tart!” I announced.
It’s funny how some dishes are so magnetic you want to savor and enjoy them for as long as possible before letting the flavours disappear, and others are so wildly delicious that you just want to eat it ASAP in the hope they waiters will think they forgot to serve you and will bring you another plate.
Finally, we indulged in Aqua Shard’s selection of homemade cakes and sweet treats. My favourite was – unusually for me – the light option, which was the Clementine & Prosecco trifle. The flavours worked so well together and I really loved it. I also very much enjoyed the Gingerbread, but I scraped the coffee interior out (classy as always) as I don’t like coffee. The other two desserts were a Dark chocolate & cherry present, and a Pear & cinnamon Santa hat. All of them were delicious and I thought there was a good variety of types of dessert and flavours.
We started with freshly squeezed Orange Juice while we perused the menu, and I was instantly drawn to the Banoffee banana bread. Banana bread is one of the things I miss most about living in Australia – it was always my Friday treat. Sadly we were there too early and it wasn’t ready yet as it’s baked fresh, so I decided on the Avocado and tomato bruschetta with poached eggs, feta, mint, basil, sumac dressing, hazelnuts. Ugh, I have MISSED brunch dishes with loads of ingredients! I don’t know what it is about Australian breakfasts and dishes, but they seem to know exactly what ingredients work perfectly together and just throw them all in to create a dish of perfection.
Also I’m currently working out how to use my new camera, so please excuse the photos in the next few posts until I figure it all out haha.
Next we moved on to the nibbles, which consisted of a delicious Fish Finger Sandwich with tomato chutney, and the Chicken Katti Roll-in pastry with mustard & pepper (another favourite of mine)! Unfortunately the bread for the Fish Finger Sandwich was quite stale and dry, and again I found this one quite spicy.
Overall our meal was delicious and the perfect girls evening! We spent hours catching up over champagne and exceptionally good food. It is important to note though that you shouldn’t expect a carbon-copy of Bob Bob Ricard. Bob Bob Cité is it’s own restaurant, and although a sister restaurant, the menu is very much more of French brasserie-style rather than Russian opulence. The restaurant design also feels much more contemporary and sleek compared to the ostentatious Soho outlet.
If you’re looking for somewhere for a special occasion, definitely check out Bob Bob Cité!
By this point I was so full of food that I couldn’t eat much more and wanted to save myself for the Wagyu that was coming next, so I avoided the Seared Greenland Halibut and left it to Nigel to finish off. You guys, the man has a bottomless stomach…did I ever tell you about the time in Doha when we went to Nando’s and he ordered pretty much the entire menu, so the waiter told him it was too much food and Nigel said ‘watch me’, so every member of staff in the restaurant stood above on the entryway above us to watch him eat it all because they didn’t believe he would finish it all? Well, he finished it all. Anyway, he raved about the Halibut, so I’m guessing it’s a good dish to order!
