🤓Here are some results from a poll I did on IG:⁣

9️⃣2️⃣% of you feel too sh*tty after a binge and cancel plans with friends⁣

9️⃣4️⃣% of you isolate yourself because of your bingeing⁣

8️⃣4️⃣% rush home after social events to binge⁣

9️⃣8️⃣% of you feel scared of what others will think about your eating habits⁣

9️⃣2️⃣% of you feel judged when eating⁣

That’s a LOT of missing out on life! That’s a lot of living in fear of judgement and not being your real self 😌⁣

I used to cancel social plans or say ‘no’ to them because I was SO embarrassed by how I looked. What would they think?? I kept telling myself ‘next time’. Next time I’d be thinner. Next time I could wear a tight dress at the party. Next time I could have fun.⁣

But next time wasn’t coming! I ended up wasting most of 20s and late teens living like this!⁣

You are SO much more than your weight and shape. There is SO much more to life than that! When you’re older 👵🏻, the last thing you’ll be thinking is ‘Oh, I’m glad I skipped all of those parties. I was too fat! Everyone would have judged me!’⁣

The people who want you at those parties want you there because they like you and want to hang out. They don’t care if you’ve gained a few kilos. And if they do, then THANK U NEXT 💁🏽‍♀️⁣

Honestly.⁣

Start putting in real, conscious effort to find more value in yourself than your weight. More importance. I KNOW it’s tough and you just want to look like those girls on Insta (do they actually exist IRL anyway?? Lol! 🤣). But you ARE amazing, loved, supported.⁣

You deserve to live life to the fullest, no matter where you are now 💚💚💚⁣

So many of us try to control our negative thoughts by blocking them out. I used to try to stop a thought as it was happening and just distract with something else. Basically trying to pretend it wasn’t happening.
-
THAT S**T DOESN'T WORK though! 💩
-
The more you try to resist or squash a thought, the more it persists. You don't need to force or control your thoughts 💭Allow the thought to happen. Then...
-
♥️ Be curious and compassionate. "Hmm, I wonder why I keep thinking about this. What's going on underneath? How can I help myself? What need is unmet". You don't have to identify with the thought. It doesn't have to become your truth.
-
The thought may be “I hate my body, I need to change it.” You can allow it to happen and then investigate it in a non-judgemental way.
-
🧠 It may stem from an underlying belief e.g. "I'm not good enough"
-
Getting curious about undestanding the beliefs that you hold can be eye-opening! 👀 So much of what we do is driven by them! So instead of trying to ignore a feeling or thought, try to dig into the belief behind it. How can you try to shift that belief?

Or fill it with thoughts that lift you up 💃
It might feel like your actions are what will “save” you from bingeing - diets, exercise, cutting calories.
But SO much of it is in your mindset 🧠
You’ve gotta BELIEVE you can heal, that you’re strong, that you can overcome difficult emotions without food, that you’re worthy and beautiful ALREADY, that you LOVE yourself now❤️❤️❤️

Do you have a GOAL weight that you've been dying to get to for ages? 😯😫
I had one for YEARS! (And low-key I wanted to get even lower than it 'to be safe' in case I gained a bit of weight again)
😤 It was a constant source of frustration that I couldn't reach it. I had been there before so why couldn't I get close now?
I kept telling myself that when I reached that weight everything would be perfect - I could wear what I wanted, be confident in a bikini, be more sociable etc etc.
I actually reached it at one point. But it took A LOT of restriction! I could only sustain it for about 2 months until all hell broke loose! 🤭 I then ended up gaining a ton of weight over the following 9 months!
The truth is: your goal weight is probably not your body’s "happy" weight. My goal weight was basically the weight I was when I was 15! My happy weight is more than that! And that's OK! 🙌🏽 Because my happy weight is EASY and EFFORTLESS to sustain. I'm not constantly dieting/restricting/exercising to keep it that way.
Maybe your goal weight is based off of somebody else's number. Or such that your body will look a certain way. BUT you may be setting yourself up for failure.
💜 Do you think you might need to be open to the fact your goal weight isn't realistic? Would life be easier and happier at a different weight? 👀

We are above “fat talk”!⁣

Fat talk perpetuates fatphobia, dieting, restriction, poor body image and low self-worth. ⁣

What is “fat talk”? ⁣

Think of it like diet talk but it’s talking about your body in a belittling way while implicitly promoting the “thin is better” belief for yourself and others around you. ⁣

It’s comments like:⁣

“These jeans make my thighs look huge!”⁣

“Uh I feel so fat”⁣

“I’ve gained so much weight, I look gross”⁣

Oftentimes, we respond back with:⁣

“You’re not fat, you’re beautiful!”⁣

“If you’re fat, I must be huge!”⁣

Engaging in fat talk is a bonding experience for many women. It’s so normal for us to dislike our bodies that we can all bond over that. It’s also a way to gain reassurance, the “no, you’re not fat at all!”⁣

But it also increases body dissatisfaction, and those who engage in fat talk are more likely to have disordered eating. ⁣

It can be tough to be the one in the group who doesn’t play into fat talk. Because it’s so expected to dislike your body - if you DON’T dislike it or speak out against fat talk, you risk being seen as “better than”. ⁣

But here’s the thing...⁣

You ARE better than fat talk. ⁣

You’re above that. ⁣

You’re better than degrading and shaming yourself. ⁣

You’re above reinforcing fatphobia. ⁣

You’re better than reducing your self worth to the amount of kilos you gained recently. ⁣

So be that friend who lifts others out of fat talk. Lift yourself out of fat talk. ⁣

iet culture got me like 😤🥵😫
Ok so I do keep saying it but I'll say it again - diet culture is whack!
Over the years, diet culture got me to do all sorts of crazy things. Like...
🍎 Not eating fruit because it was too sugary
🤢 Forcing myself to try to eat foods I don't particularly like because they're 'healthy' (rice cakes + celery anyone🤣🤣!)
😧 Eat 1000 calories a day for weeks on end and think that’s a sustainable life change
😓 Believe I can go without breakfast everyday
🏃🏼‍♀️Go to the gym JUST to "burn" calories
💧Drink water to silence my hunger
I could go on! And I'm sure you could too!
So when are you going to finally quit being sucked into dieting?
We can all blame diet culture as much as we want - and yes, it does suck - but also, we have the power to change. To make different choices in how we take care of, nourish and improve ourselves. THE #1 fear about stepping into recovery⁣

“I’m terrified to gain weight”⁣

I’ve spoken about it before - what’s behind that fear: what being heavier represents to you⁣

Maybe a less happy time in your life, less confident time...⁣

But another reason for the fear of weight gain is dreading having to lose it ⁣

The only way I knew to lose weight was through extreme restriction and lots of cardio - can you relate?⁣

So no WONDER we’re super scared of gaining. ⁣

We know that trying to lose weight is a slippery slope to bingeing and feeling totally out of control. ⁣

And it’s just an exhausting & obsessive place to be. Suddenly it’s your main focus in life. ⁣

What if when that fear of weight gain surfaced, we let ourselves know it’s safe. If we gain weight - we can be more compassionate. Accepting. ⁣

And IF our body wants to lose weight - we can surrender to that and let it do it’s THANG 😏⁣

At its own pace. In its own way. ⁣

Without our ego with its timelines interfering⁣

Funny story:⁣

I signed up to ClassPass recently and did a Pilates class this morning (first time in well over 15 years or so)...⁣

One position had us lying down with our legs straight up in the air. I was looking at my toes as I did the exercise and laughed because...⁣

I remember back in the days when I hated my body, I’d even complain about having ugly feet 🦶 ⁣

Every part of my body was flawed in my eyes 😔⁣

That moment reminded me how far I’ve come: from hating my body, battling it, forcing it to lose weight. ⁣

To now where I’m either neutral or positive about my body (it varies by day). ⁣

My mind is so freed up to focus on more important things and THAT’S awesome. ⁣

Body love ALL the time is an awesome goal to have but can feel overwhelming and unrealistic. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
What IS possible though is respect. To NOT be the mean girl in your own movie of life 🎥 ⁣
⁣⁣
That is a powerful place to start!⁣⁣

went on a detox retreat to Thailand one summer during university - desperate to lose weight before term started again.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
It was SO insanely restrictive that my body went into FULL survival mode 🥵⁣
⁣⁣
I would spend evenings in my room scrolling on IG drooling over photos of brownies and cookies 🍪 ⁣
⁣⁣
I was planning all of the things I’d eat once back to reality. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I was SO fixated on food. I couldn’t fight my body’s urges anymore so I snuck out at night to buy packets of Oreos and Nutella. ⁣⁣
I felt like SUCH a failure. But now when I look back, my body was looking out for me! It was protecting me 😊⁣⁣
⁣⁣
If you feel like you can’t stop thinking about food - most likely, it’s your body saying “EAT!!”⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Your body really does know best 💚

I don’t think it’s about convincing yourself that your feature is actually “better”, it’s about thinking both are fine and being at peace with what you’ve got.⁣⁣

Example: I’m slowly coming to terms with being at peace having smaller b***s...⁣⁣🍒

It’s not like I’m trying to convince myself having big b***s would suck and that I shouldn’t want mine bigger...⁣⁣

It’s more like b***s are nice at all sizes⁣⁣ 😁
⁣⁣
Or if you view it more as a pros and cons list - how can you enjoy the ‘pros’ of having your feature more? And take away focus from the ‘cons’⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Example: Having small b***s, can I wear lots of cute tops this summer without a bra (with no discomfort)? ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
And taking away focus of the cons -- e.g. I saw this video pop up on my feed the other day of some guy saying ’scientifically these are the physical features of the ‘perfect woman’ for men’...I instantly knew they’d say bigger/medium b***s lol so I was like SWIPE past this video and move on LOL!⁣⁣😂

I’m gonna help you surrender to your body too in BBE 👩🏼‍🤝‍👩🏽⁣

Rewind: I gained and lost the same 50lbs a million times during my bingeing years 😥⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I get it! Not only is bingeing a pain in the ass on its own, but it makes you gain weight. Fast.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Over my decade-long struggle with bingeing and dieting, I gained and lost the same 50lbs a million times over.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I’d go on a hard core meal plan for a few weeks, only to binge it all back on and more in a few days.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
For me, trying to lose weight became my main focus. I tried to solve THAT problem for years, not realising that in doing so I was perpetuating the binges too.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I went on crazy juice cleanses (I’m talking 60 days of juices only!) and visited a detox center in Thailand (super restrictive). I lose weight. And guess, what - gained it all back within weeks of bingeing.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
It felt like this impossible battle. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I longed for my slimmer body. Looked back at photos constantly, hoping I’d look and feel that way again.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Here’s the thing though - the ONLY time over those ten years that I lost weight and kept it off was at the very end…⁣⁣
⁣⁣
When I sorted out my bingeing for good.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Stop fighting an uphill battle. Stop trying to lose weight while still bingeing. You’ll inevitably lose.⁣⁣

Imagine weight gain/loss didn’t make you flinch...⁣

If you could feel totally chill with the ups and downs of weight...⁣

Then we wouldn’t be frantically typing into google “how to lose 20lbs in a month”⁣

(I’ve been there)⁣

We wouldn’t be jumping on extreme diets and becoming obsessive. ⁣

We might as well get used to it now. Because there WILL be times you’ll gain weight: pregnancy, menopause, injury, illness, quarantine!⁣

The sooner we accept this fact and learn to flow instead of fight, the easier it’s gonna be.⁣

But it can feel like an impossible goal especially if you’re currently feeling low all the time about your body. ⁣

What we really wanna work towards is feeling so chill about your body that it doesn’t even take up room in your mind...⁣

That you can free up time, energy and focus for more important things. ⁣

It’s not this primary focus that you worry about multiple times a day. ⁣

What could you be doing with your life if you weren’t worried about your cellulite/belly/weight? 👇👇👇⁣

Share with a friend who needs this reminder ⁣💚

Reminder that it's not 'too late' to change the way you treat and think about your own body. ⁣

I know many of us think about how we'll 'right the wrongs' regarding body image with the next generation (maybe our daughters/nieces)⁣

And thinking that since they're a blank slate, it'll be easier to impart body acceptance onto them (probably true!)⁣

But it doesn't mean you can't practice what you preach onto yourself too. You're not a hopeless case!⁣

This is something I still have to remind myself of sometimes. ⁣

My boyfriend is slim and not much taller than me so I eat more than him VERY often.⁣

I don’t look all dainty in his shirts. They fit me perfectly 🤣⁣

My thighs are like twice his size. Esssspecially when I sit down and my thighs splay out on the chair 😝⁣

I don’t feel all light and tiny when I sit on his lap. In fact, I hardly do it because I feel “too heavy”⁣. But I AIN’T!

So a reminder to all y’all girls out there (including myself!)

⚠️It’s OK to take up space⚠️⁣

TAKE UP SPACE⁣

You don’t have to be tiny and petite compared to the guy⁣

You don’t have to eat half of what he does ⁣

Eat the leftover scraps off his plate with pride!! 😝😁⁣

It can be hard to tell the difference at the start of your journey, like, 'Is it reallllly because I'm gassy or is it because I want to quickly lose weight?' 🧐

That's why I usually recommend lifting as many limits as you can at the start of your journey.

Lift all of the 'restrictions' to make sure you're not restricting

-- then once you begin to find more stability and clarity - once you're better listening to hunger/fullness cues, to your intuition, to your body's needs...

Then I recommend adding any limits you want that come from an honestly self-respecting and self-loving place.

Also, being in this state, I'm guessing you're oscillating between super 'clean eating' and binge eating. There's 2 extremes going on.⁣

As someone who's been through it AND worked with 100s of women -- I can safely say that working on your food relationship (and mindset) first, will help LONG-TERM⁣

(p.s. it's not like you can't lose weight later)⁣
