Jamaal A. Gulledge

Democratic candidate running for CA SD 28.

05/01/2023

Happy to report that I’ve earned a recommendation from Stonewall Young Democrats to be a Democratic delegate for Assembly District 57. If I am fortunate enough to be selected as a delegate, I promise to push a party platform the centers improving the lives of LGBTQ+, and a platform that reshapes the party from being an insiders club to a party for the people. !

The next two years will prove to be crucial for the CA Democratic party. Delegates will take steps to act on drafting a platform, and endorse candidates for local elections, the 2024 U.S. Senate race, and a Presidential candidate. The platform we draft will set the standard for other states throughout the nation and will likely influence the trajectory of the DNC platform as well.
I am running for ADEMS, District 57 to uplift the perspectives of communities that are often marginalized. Black, Asian/Pacific Islanders, Latino/a, LGBTQ+, DACA recipients, immigrants, the unhoused, and the working class are the backbone of the Democratic party but lack equitable representation within the party. I have been involved in electoral politics for many years including volunteering for local and democratic candidates across the United States. My interest in being a delegate is rooted in my desire to be accessible and listen to the needs of the community. When I ran for CA State Senate, I was proud to be recognized by Alexandria Ocasio Cortez’s PAC, Courage to Change. AOC’s PAC recognized me as a candidate that demonstrated political courage, a candidate that refused to yield to establishment pressure, and that zealously campaigned for working-class families. As a public servant, civil rights activist, and proud first-generation college graduate I humbly ask for your vote. As an ADEM delegate, I will advocate for Healthcare For All, election finance reform, public banking, fully funding public schools, increased access to mental healthcare, and public housing among other progressive issues.

Had a great time in New York City last weekend with my best friend of 18 years. We enjoyed great food, rode bikes, made some new friend, and became super envious of NYC’s public transportation (LA can learn a lot from NYC) 😉. I did unfortunately, return home w/Covid. I am asymptomatic and resting comfortably and I feel thankful to be vaccinated and boosted. 💉

This trip was a great break from running my first campaign over the past few months. While the outcome wasn’t what I had hoped for, it was a great learning experience that I’ll remember for the rest of my life.

CA needs a public banking system. Public banks not only return profits to the state as non-tax revenue, but they also help to foster economic development, generate jobs, and expand the tax base by providing reliable and affordable credit.

Good evening everyone! We've made a slight change to our plans. We've decided that our efforts would be best served in the California State legislature. Dr. MLK Jr. stood up for voting rights, economic & racial equality/justice. These rights won’t be achieved by the GOP sending nice tweets 1x per year. The Republicans must cease their obstructionism & join Democrats in perfecting our democracy.

We must ensure that every police department in the United States develops basic criteria for how their officers engage with the people in the communities they serve by setting national standards for the behavior of police officers and local agencies that receive federal funds. These principles include combating racially biased policing, which contributes to the disproportionately high number of Black and Brown individuals murdered by police.
