The HearthWitch Homestead
Welcome to the Homestead!
Join me and my unique menagerie as we navigate the fun and frustrations of building a self sustainable-ish homestead and business on our small farm!
Last year I purchased two peach trees and two apple trees. Only one of my apple trees survived. Thanks to my one year warranty I purchased replacements have been chosen and planted! Currently I have an Arkansas Black Apple tree, a 5 in 1 Apple tree, and an Elberta Peach tree in the ground! I am currently waiting on my Red Harvest Peach, Black Tartarine Cherry, and Lapins Cherry trees to arrive!
Facebook won't let me share the site link but...
Fast growing trees is the name of the company (picture below)

Spring planting was delayed slightly by Texas Snowmageddon but the weather since has been perfect for growth. My peppers and tomatoes are doing great in their various containers. This year im trying a couple new things too! Carrots in buckets should prove an interesting experiment.
8 dozen Chicken eggs
2 cartons of 6 Duck eggs
2 cartons of 6 Goose eggs
All washed and float tested.
Instructions on how to do your own float test are included in the cartons along with a business card.
Last night my egg cartons arrived! Big shout out to eggcarton.com i was able to fing all the sizes of cartons i needed and they arrived quickly.

Here is some great pieces of knowledge to keep in mind
Set up a makeshift winter barn. I hope i never have to moce them in bad weather again...wrestling fully grown turkeys is not pleasant.
Very happy I delayed getting the spring planting started..
Its a fridged week here in North Texas
Bird photos!!!
If you can see them the poles will be the hazelnut trees
The white poles are going to be the placement of my fruit trees. First two are peach trees the second two are the apple trees. That large empty spot will be for a cherry tree next year!
Well I must say it has been a productive garden so far and the season isn't even over yet! The tomatoes and peppers have been abundant and now adding in beans and egg plant!
Y'all remember those tiny little purple sweet potato plants? Well they are THRIVING!
Super excited! ordered some new trees for the yard!
I am looking forward to seeing what the cross pollination of the apple trees produces and with 2 high production peach trees I am going to have quite a bit of fruit on my hands. Next year I will be adding Cherries to the mix!
In the next several weeks I will be extending the existing poultry pen soon, real soon (the Cornish hens and rooster arrive next week).
I will be creating a pen specifically for my Cornish game hens and rooster and a third pen for what I currently call the Broody Bi***es Club/The Karens/The Stepford wives....well you get the idea. This is for the 3 Buff Orpingtons that will be setting eggs for me who are currently in the brooder themselves (so floofers).
I look forward to updating you on our projects as they progress!
I realized this morning that I never actually named the pen!
I would like to do a poll but apparently that is not an option so here are a couple thoughts for the main pen which houses Chickens, Ducks, Turkeys, and Geese:

SO excited!! going to be raising meat birds along with my laying hens!
Cornish Game Hens will be on the menu this fall and if successful will remain in inventory for local customers. I am also going to expand the laying flock again in order to increase product offered to my local peoples and adding a rooster or two to offer chicks as well!

Salad to go with tacos!!!
Tomatoes are happy! Also more pics of the plants! The sweet potatoes are really happy
Salad with dinner tonight!
Super excited to be experimenting with micro greens! First attempt is sunflower sprouts.
Coffee plants have been moved indoors due to leaves burning in the sun, bugs, heat.
They need 65⁰-75⁰F temperatures and indirect sun or grow lights. I will be getting a humidifier as well! Im excited to see new growth!
The business cards came in!!!
This is the pics of the poultry pen. And me (horrible pic) with my male toulouse goose Josey. Its a wonderful summer evening and i decided to let the birds free. This will happen regularly.
The weather here in North Texas has finally cleared up! There will be planting this weekend
Pickin' peppers! And a tomato lol
All of these bad boys where repotted today! Looking forward to pumpkins, giant sunflower and atomic cherry tomatoes!
Two days worth of eggs from my girls!
