This week was Singer Appreciation Week in the studio, with the goal to appreciate ourselves as singers!

Boosting your self-confidence as a singer is so important, and it can be very challenging. We all have something to say, every voice has value, and everyone deserves to be heard, but sometimes it's easier to see this in others than ourselves.

In addition to listing positive accomplishments and what we know we do well, we also did the following exercise from The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron:List a core negative belief then rewrite it as a positive affirmation. For example "I, Jane Doe am bad at singing" could become "I, Jane Doe am good at singing" (or 'excellent at singing' or 'improving at singing'). Revisit these positive affirmations frequently to help the negative belief dissolve.

It's so important for singers to maintain their confidence. I recommend everyone try exercises like this one, and remember to appreciate yourself!

Singers are always working on diaphragmatic breathing and with the election tomorrow, I thought some breathing exercises may be helpful for you, too. Here are some of my favorites for singing and relaxation.

Take it easy on yourself this week and if you haven’t voted yet, make sure to head to the polls!

To bring a little freshness to the start of this abnormal school year, I made "singers goody bags" and dropped them off at each student's house so that each student would have all the tools they'd need for singing lessons.

A lot of my students were missing the normal end of summer traditions to get excited for the year, like getting school supplies, and this was my way of bringing back some of that excitement. We use these tools to help with breath and body awareness while singing, and of course I threw in a few music themed school supplies items as well :). I'm happy that the last component, the flow-ball, just arrived, and I'm excited to deliver them this week.

This past weekend, my studio had an outdoor (masked & socially distant) concert. It was so nice to see and hear everybody in person! Thanks again to our wonderful hosts!

I feel invigorated heading into the work week after some gaining some new tools and insights at a studio masterclass yesterday!

A big thanks to the fabulous Carol Mastrodomenico for the engaging and helpful masterclass and a big congrats to all the singers who performed so well!
