Agriculture has made Eastern Oregon an economic powerhouse, and we're having a great time celebrating this year with the 50th anniversary of the Hermiston Farm Fair as industry leaders talk about what's in store for the next generation.

The central pipeline project in the Columbia Basin is a perfect example of how collaboration between public, private and tribal partners can have multigenerational benefits. Local leaders put in the hard work to come up with local solutions to recharge depleting aquifers. Farms, fish, and communities can all thrive.

Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, Umatilla County Board of Commissioners, Northeast Oregon Water Association, and local farmers and engineers deserve so much credit for this project. Kudos to legislators from both sides of the state and aisle for seeing the value and investing.

It was my honor to be elected by League of Oregon Cities members as the 2024 president. This organization does so much to stand up for the 241 unique cities in Oregon and push back against one-size-fits-all policies that don't work on the local level.

Housing needs are different in each part of the state. Policies that may work in Portland aren’t always right for Eastern Oregon. We need an approach that empowers cities to work with developers to build houses, apartments, manufactured homes, and other units that are a good fit for them.

Thanks to the Columbia Basin Board of Realtors for the great discussion today on housing solutions that work for Eastern Oregon.

Our men and women in public safety — law enforcement, firefighters, EMTS, and others on the front lines — give so much of themselves to keep our communities safe.

Nice tour with Representative Greg Smith of the brand new barracks at the Oregon National Guard - Oregon Military Department General Raymond Rees training center near Hermiston.

Another workday for Stepping Stones Alliance. Getting close to having transitional housing readily accessible in West Umatilla County!

Projects like this are critical to taking on the homelessness crisis head-on. Providing a safe place to sleep, access to mental health and other services, and creating a sense of purpose are all important steps.

Great to see the City of Umatilla, City of Hermiston, City of Stanfield, City of Echo, and Umatilla County working together toward local solutions.

Thank you to the Umatilla County Republican Central Committee for inviting me to speak about my values and asking great questions about some of our biggest issues - homelessness, energy, trade schools and workforce training, and public safety.

I’ve been learning about the specific issues facing each community in District 29, but seeing the same themes everywhere: the need for accountability and a voice for conservative values.

It was my honor to testify to the House Committee on Economic Development & Small Business this week about the challenges facing businesses in Oregon, and how an inadequate approach to public safety, homelessness, and community development is hurting their ability to operate.

If we want to see our communities flourish, we need to create safe, inviting places where businesses can be successful.

Great day at the Pendleton Round-Up, seeing lots of old friends and meeting some new ones. What a great showcase for Eastern Oregon's culture and hospitality.

It was great to see the culmination of success for these kids with awards and the auction of their fair animals at the Gilliam County and Sherman County fairs. I'm never surprised how well these kids are supported by local families and businesses.

Fairs are at the heart of rural communities. Skills learned that are transferable to adulthood and to core rural, family values. Rural families deserve to be heard!

Today we celebrate the workers who make this country great. As a small business owner I know how important family-wage jobs are to a community.

Goose has been my trusty companion and hunting buddy for three years now, and it's hard to imagine a trip without him.

You could say we're both advocates for sportsman's rights. It's one of the things that makes living in rural Oregon so rewarding — the hunting, fishing, hiking, climbing, boating, and other outdoor opportunities.
