You can teach the Place command on any defined object. However in the beginning stages we have found that it is much easier to teach it on as raised bed to start
part one đ . We love seeing all these sweet faces
We believe one of the most important things we can do is offer value to our clients. We operate under a âWin Winâ policy when it comes to running the business.
These days we screen anyone who wants to become a potential client. In the beginning of my career I would take anyone who wanted to hire me and sought my help. Over time I began to see a flaw with this. Just because someone hires me to do a job doesnât mean that itâs going to work out the way we all had planned. I learned that itâs extremely important if not the most important thing for the dog trainer and dog owner to be 100 % on the same page. The same page of expectations from the dog, tools being used, methodology, etc...
The dog is the easy part. If we as the humans donât agree then the process is sure to fail.
For us itâs not just a paycheck that weâre looking for... yes we are a dog training company of course we want to make money but we will decline being hired if we feel we are not a good fit for each other. Thatâs not an anti client statement thatâs a pro client statement because we want you to be happy and comfortable with the training path you take.
Hiring us or any dog trainer is not just about the training package you buy its about adopting a new life style with your dog.
If youâre willing to make adjustments and change the way you live with your dog that will create ultimate success with your dog and in your dog training journey, and when our clients are successful long term that creates a âWin Winâ for all of us
Flash back Friday with baby Lincoln and his litter mates
Teaching dogs to politely co-exists with babies and young children is invaluable. Itâs important to teach our dogs that life and interaction with babies and young children is not a free for all. Most dogs donât understand that they have to be gentle with babies. The noises and movements of babies and children have a tendency to make lots of dogs nervous and edgy. Itâs our job to teach them how to properly behave, especially in the presence of young children. We canât expect them to just figure it all out on their own. One of the best things we can do to make life with our dog and child peaceful and safe is to create space . What do I mean by that? In a nut shell donât force them together especially if you can tell the dog is uncomfortable. Donât let the dog constantly follow the kid around getting in their face and space. We teach co-existence with dogs and kids, we arenât advocates of dogs and kids interacting at a young age . Successful co-existence between kids and dogs is %50 on the dog and %50 on the kids and %100 on the adult to keep everyone safe , happy and comfortable.
PUPPIES.ARE.WORK
Puppies are nothing more than a tornado wrapped in a cute package đ¤ˇđťââď¸ there I said it!
Youâre talking to someone who has raised lots and lots of puppies ( My family has bred Goldens/Doodles for 25 years ) To raise them right take work! To think we can just get a puppy bring them home and let it just work itself out is foolish thinking. I always tell families that get puppies from us âJust because you get a puppy from the dog trainer doesnât mean I sprinkle magic dust on them before they leave â regardless of who you are puppies are work. Puppies donât know not to chew on decorations or a $200 cow skin rug. We as their owners are obligated to teach them what to do and what not to do and that takes... you guessed it WORK. The cool thing is if you dig your heels in and really commit to training and guiding your puppy the first year of their life you will be able to ENJOY the rest of their life. What things are you currently struggling with your puppy ? @ Milligan Valley

⢠Serious Inquiries Only
⢠We have 2 Golden Retrievers, a 1.5 yr. old male & a 1 yr. old female.
We also have one F1b Goldendoodle, a 7 month old male. These 3 dogs are available! All 3 were born at Milligan Valley, but due to the owner's new circumstances, they have to be re-homed. When this happens, we always train them up to their age appropriate potential. This extensive training is taking place now. They have already mastered all their in home family manners.
If you've researched our training methods, you will know that we promote and follow a very structured life with client's dogs as well as our own personal dogs. These dogs are trained as we do all of our board and train clients, and they are accustomed to that. This type of training produces a very desirable family pet.
If you're not familiar with our dog training methods, then please research our training methods and watch my videos available on this page as well as Instagram and YouTube channel. They are fully house and crate trained and are also on/off leash trained.
They will come with the rest of their 2 year Health warranties. The Retrievers have been spayed and neutered, and are current on all vetting. The F1b Goldendoodle has not been neutered. Due to health reasons, we like to wait a year for them to grow, before having this done. He is also current on his vetting.
Serious inquiries can send us a direct message with any additional questions you may have.
Per Facebook rules, we are not able to put the price in this post, you must send us a direct message for that information.
Thank you!
Achieving the owners goals for their dogs is my number priority! As a dog trainer I of course have my own goals for the owner and dog but I put them on the back burner. Why? Cause itâs not my dog. The first questions I ask folks in that very first session is â How can I help you TODAY?â & â What i can I do to help make life with your dog easier TODAY?â Most folks that Iâm working with are truly struggling living life with their dog even doing simple things like, getting the dog out of the crate... My goal for every dog I work with is to be off leash reliable and under full voice control. However if the owner is struggling with something as simple as getting the dog out of the crate calmly I think we better start at ground zero and set the tone with the dog and get that owner some confidence to then be able to focus and work on the big stuff life off leash work. Seeing owners succeed and grow in confidence thatâs what itâs all about for me.
*Door manners*
There are a few reasons we teach door manners . # 1 is safety and # 2 is respect. I donât want a dog to think when the door opens it can just rudely bust through the door way regardless of who or whatâs in their way . I also want the dog to learn to pause at door ways and wait to be released for safety reason. Itâs incredible how teaching the dog to ask for permission before exiting the home can really set the tone not only for a walk but also for the overall day if you stay consistent with it.
This is Lincoln. He is an F1b golden doodle, he was Floyd from our summer litter, themed after the Andy Griffith show. Due to personal circumstances he needed to be returned.
He is truly a sweetheart with a great disposition. The puppy stage is great but it also takes time and hard work. We know a lot of folks simply donât have the time to put into house and crate training a puppy and all the other basic training to get their pup where theyâd like them to be. We decided weâd do it for ya!
This guy will be available around 6 months or so. When we feel heâs ready to go he will be sold with all the necessary family dog training. Stay tuned and watch for the progress of his training!
Lincoln's price will be set at a later date when we see how much training he will take.
Fear is a powerful motivator
Most of us have that one thing that just totally wigs us out. For me its rodents đđ I have such an irrational fear of any and all rodents that I would literally do anything to get away from a rodent ANYTHING.
Sometimes we deal with dogs who are irrational, nervous and fearful over various different things sometimes we may have no clue why a dog is afraid of a certain thing but they just are . Why do some people have pet rats and I canât even look at a picture of a rat without feeling panicked?
Fear is a powerful motivator. The best thing we can do for our fearful dogs is to build their confidence, help them understand that they can trust us . Babying them is not the answer, but truly getting down in the trenches with them sort of speak and working them through their fear is the most valuable thing we can do for our fearful dogs .
So whatâs your fear?
Well behaved dogs get to have more fun and enjoyment in life . Structure and rules actually equals freedom. When your dog has a clear grasp on whatâs expected of them and they understand that regardless of if they are home hanging out or out and about with their owner the rules never change and the expectations are always the same well now you have freedom, freedom to comfortably and confidently go anywhere youâd like with your dog.

- Be Sincere -
When you teach, when you guide , when you correct, when you praise and when you play just be sincere. Your dog will thank for that through their actions .

Weâre actually in the human business.
Most dog trainers become dog trainers because they donât really like people, but letâs not forget there is a human attached to the other end of that leash.
We look at things a little differently. If we cannot help the human than we canât help the dog itâs just that simple. Regardless if we do a board and train, private training or free on line help if we canât connect with the human in a genuine way weâll never be able to help the dog. Shaming and blaming owners for what they did or didnât do with their dogs is something I cannot stand, especially when I have an owner in front of me asking for my help. Because if they genuinely knew what to do or where they went wrong they wouldnât be needed my help in the first place . My thought is when I meet a new client is, today is day 1 letâs forget about yesterday and all the days before that and letâs start today. Dog training is simple it honestly is. Thatâs the biggest thing we wish to convey to our clients. Dog trainers out there making this stuff seem overly complicated just need their ego stroked because it makes them feel magical and like the dog whisper. Me? I just donât need that in my life. What pumps me up is watching my clients succeed and conquer things that have been a burden in their life with their dog. Private training is especially rewarding because we truly get to know so many awesome people and each and every week they show up for their lessons they are full of excitement to keep progressing. To watch folks come in week 1 so burdened down with some heavy behavior issues that theyâve been dealing with for months sometimes years, people that have spent hundreds or even thousands of dollars elsewhere and still cannot get unwanted behaviors under control and the thought of a off leash reliable dog is not even on their radar to watch those people walk out the door 5 weeks later with an off leash reliable dog that THEY trained under our guidance now that is what strokes my ego. To watch someone light up with excitement telling me about the breakthroughs they have had with the dog during the week and watching their confidence grow for me thatâs where itâs at!
We are raising dogs not puppies !
Thatâs a concept I think we need to think about a little more than we do. Blink and that puppy in my arms will be a full grown dog. Are we teaching that dog everything it needs to know from the start or do we just keep using the excuse âHe just a puppyâ , âHeâll grow out of itâ , âHeâs to little to start trainingâ if youâve found those comments filtering into your vocabulary or the vocabulary of those in your household. You are missing the boat my friends!! Yes they are little and no we cannot have expectations for a small puppy the way we have for a grown dog. BUT if youâre waiting around twiddling your thumbs thinking that itâs all gonna just organically work itâs self out thatâs foolish thinking . Kids canât successfully raise themselves and neither can puppies that is OUR job, and obligation thatâs what WE signed up for. So get to work teaching and instructing on day one and always remember we are raising dogs not puppies .
What do you see? A piece of Chicken and a shock collar? What I see is the difference between life and death. If that piece of chicken is eaten by a Dog, the result can end up a whole lot more disappointing than you just loosing your lunch. For a counter surfing Dog who eats that cooked chicken breast with the bones in it could not only result in death but at the very least a surgery to avoid the bones splintering in the Dogs intestinal track. Now all of this can be avoided... How?
If you have the Dog where every time you turn your back and leave the room they are getting into the trash or counter surfing or heck maybe you have the Dog that is so bold as to do it right in front of you. There is only one thing to do. You have to make the act of jumping on the counter or getting into the trash suck! You do this with a high level correction on the shock collar . Listen I get it no one wants to feel like they are hurting their Dog including me BUT not correcting this behavior will eventually end up in a lot more discomfort than a 2 second correction on the remote collar . This a subject that I donât beat around the bush with because Dogs are dying every day from eating things they shouldnât . What really gets to me is these purely positive/force free trainers refuse to tell owners how to fix these behaviors. Why? Because it doesnât sound good... Theyâll tell owners âjust donât put anything on your counter â Really, donât ever put anything on the counter ? Yeah cause thatâs realistic đ¤Śđťââď¸. Meanwhile Dogs are dying and owners are left frustrated and all of this could be avoided with a 2 second correction. So my advice... Set the Dog up. When you leave the room spy on them and as soon as their feet hit the counter give them a correction and donât say a word. Why donât you touch the burner on a hot stove ? Think about it.
This advice doesnât sound good, but Iâm not worried about how it âsoundsâ Iâm worried about keeping Dogs alive and healthy , Iâm more concerned about their owners and the frustration they are experiencing than being attacked by my unpopular opinion in the purely positive/ force free world of Dog training.
Those Eyes, That Boy đ¤
Once youâve initially taught the âPlaceâ command it literally can translate to go hang out on any defined object . We love this command for so many different reasons but one of the best things about this command is it allows Dogs to be more involved in the owners lives because they have the ability to just Hang out and be calm regardless of whatâs going on around them. In the first photo youâll see Roman relaxing on a box jump and in the 2nd photo youâll see Wyatt holding a Sit on an elevated surface which helps with focus and confidence building . If you havenât taught the place command than what are you waiting for ? Itâs life changing
