Today we had some very talented Culinary arts 1 students compete in a cupcake battle. I am so beyond proud of their hard work and dedication.
Culinary Arts 1 took in a class Halloween Cupcake Wars this week.
Culinary Arts 1 learning about baker’s percentage and ratios making buttermilk pancakes and chocolate chip banana nut muffins. Students give their dishes 2 thumbs up!

Plating up beautiful desserts for The Texas Business Hall of Fame event happening at the Convention Center tonight. Where precision, teamwork, and timing is key!
Congratulations to our Practicum students Cassidy & Leska on accepting part-time employment with our partnered internship - The RK Group! Along with interning during school, these two young professionals will also be working after school. We are proud of their commitment to work towards their career goals!
It’s Friday. The end of our first week at internship. Students experiencing the end of food production plating the projects they’ve worked on all week. All their hard work comes to this moment. You could feel the pride and accomplishment with each plate they made!

Practicum in the heart of the assembly lines keeping the pace. Focused on the details. Communicating with their Chefs for more product to serve. Working together to be in sync and consistent with each plate. We are !
Day 2 of internship we are: slicing, prioritizing, baking, measuring, communicating, plating, grilling, portioning, organizing, calculating, garnishing, sanitizing...
At internship we apply ALL our academic and technical training to prepare for our future careers!
Dressed to impress, our Practicum students worked their first shift at internship with The RK Culinary Group at The Henry B. Convention Center.
Our students were ready to learn and eager to showcase their skills. They took a tour and jumped right to work. While learning about the company’s operation in serving 6 million customers every year for the past 65 years in the industry.
Thank you to The Austin Food & Wine Alliance for offering a one-of-a-kind immersive experience hosting The Culinary Arts Career Conference for high school students. Our students left feeling inspired, educated, and connected to the culinary community!
12 of our practicum students had the opportunity to train and compete in a variety of contests. We are incredibly proud of how hard each of them worked to showcase their skills and knowledge. The students took to heart their feedback from the judges to sharpen their techniques.
The most impactful opportunity of all was their chance to network and learn from industry professionals. We are grateful for so many who took the time to mentor and share their wisdom and expertise on topics like: trending careers, entrepreneurship skills, and how to run and operate food trucks to restaurants.

When a teammate is still doing their setup chores, you take the team huddle to them to review the recipe before starting. Teamwork makes the dream work!
Baking & Pastry Instructor Chef Woods from The Art Institute helped our senior students prepare for their upcoming competition teaching them elements of dessert plating. Students took notes and practiced how to garnish using fruit, chocolate, sauces, and marzipan.
At East Central we value designing lessons collaborating with industry professionals and college instructors to help prepare our students for success in the workplace.
