Hello everyone! My name is Storm and I am from NEPA Pride Society! I am so excited for this year's merge as we celebrate loving one another and being together for Pride month.

A little bit about NEPA Pride Society- we are a group branching from St.John's Evangelical Lutheran church in Honesdale, who hold socials every month to support the LGBT everywhere in North-East PA. Every month the social changes! One month might be a game night, or another could be a movie.

This month, to celebrate the power of being together, we are hosting a Pride Potluck! There is food and the first 20 people to RSVP will recieve a free goodie bag! **Note: Furring the RSVP you will be asked to bring a dish- hense it being called a potluck. There are soy and onion allergies so if your dish contains either, please let me know!

I hope each and every one of you continue to have an amazing Pride!

As continues, we are resharing our featuring Maj. Gen. Leah Lauderback.

"After coming out in my small social circle in 1997, I lived under the policy of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell for 14 years. I have firsthand knowledge of what it means to work in a non-inclusive workforce and would describe that as personally challenging, upsetting, and demeaning.

I continued to serve in the Air Force because I loved my job and the people I served with; however, I put my desire to serve the nation above my desire to live a normal life. Instead of being my true self, I hid, I evaded questions, and I was untruthful at times β€” of simple things such as describing my plans for the weekend."

Play it Again Campaign! Celebrating Music in Our Schools Month πŸŽΈπŸ“―πŸŽ»πŸ₯πŸŽΆ The NEPA Pride Project is kicking off our annual musical instrument drive and we need your help! The drive will be held now through March 31st, 2022 (although we will continue to accept donations on an ongoing basis.)

Our goal is to get musical instruments into the hands of every child that would like to learn to play one. We ask that you check your closets, garages, attics, and even under your bed for gently used musical instruments that are no longer being played, so they can find a new life for a student in need.

Schools are in need of musical instruments and supplies such as violins, violas, cello, clarinets, flutes, French horns, oboes, trombones, trumpets, saxophones, and percussion pieces to name a few.

The NEPA Pride Project will collect the instruments and supplies directly. The instruments will then be donated to one of the local elementary schools in NEPA. Students in these schools may not be able to afford an instrument to take part in their school's music program so you are donation will help get one in their hands.
All instruments collected will be first assessed by a school district music teacher/professional to ensure they are in optimal playing conditions. They will be professionally cleaned and repaired if needed, and then will become part of the school's instrument inventory. All instruments will then be matched with students based on need and issued as part of the loaner program. The instrument will never be rented out or sold as it goes against the "Play it Again" Campaign Drive.

If interested in making a donation - please message our team to schedule a pickup or drop-off location.

Thank you for always making a difference and keeping the arts alive in NEPA!

Thankfully a lot of progress has been made over the years! Do ask, Do tell!

We know many have heard "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." That old narrative is actually harmful as it is important to talk openly with your provider regarding your orientation and gender identity to receive the appropriate care for your individual needs. DO ASK! DO TELL! If you need help or have questions reach out to your local VA about what LGBTQ services they have. Here in NEPA you can call the LGBTQ Veteran Care Coordinator at (570)824-3521 ext 24808

To this my response is- North Pocono Pride would like to wish every one a wonderful Proud Day because NO amount of Pride in being who we are as our authentic selves can be boxed within one calendar day!
Also, πŸ˜‚ volunteers needed to help me remember holidays ect... For our events and social media! πŸ™

Copied from our Mxtr North Pocono Pride
Today is World AIDS Day. ❀️

Today we remember SO many lives lost to complications due to AIDS since the first cases of HIV in the early 1980s. πŸ–€

I overthink a lot about the impact of losing the people we did on our society and culture. Would we be more open? Would we have the problems we do with our healthcare system? I am always heartened and inspired by the togetherness and activism that came out of such horrific and bleak circumstances with no clear path forward. So many people did so many amazing things to create grassroots movements and services simply out of love and care for the tragedy going on around them.

Without the HIV/AIDS pandemic, the world would not have been as prepared as it was for COVID-19. Vaccines developed as quickly as they did because they piggybacked on years of work by researchers looking to create a vaccine for HIV (since there are already successful treatments and preventions in pill form).

Remember to get tested for HIV once per year (regardless of your sexuality and even if you are in a monogamous relationship), use condoms and PrEP or PEP to prevent the spread of HIV and other STIs, and donate and support your local, national, and international AIDS Service Organizations.

Last but not least, fight for Universal Healthcare! Activists have been giving that solution for over 40 years!!! It not only helps those living with HIV; it helps everyone!

World AIDS Day is a reminder of how far we've come and how far we still have to go.
