*** Steve 'West' Weston's Bluesonics - old style Chicago/West Coast harp playing ***
Sat 11 Nov 2023 7:30 PM - 10:15 PM - St Mary's Church, Dorking, RH4 1PT
TICKETS -: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/stmaryssessions/1000427?fbclid=IwAR0qJYdZSCE-LvgMcy9334vm49gx4VatLWNXhXdubpB8d0gTDUmxzB-4csU
Steve Weston has got a pretty solid claim to being one of London’s top harmonica players. His tone is extraordinary, as is his taste and style, and within his chosen field - old style Chicago/West Coast harp playing- he’s right up there with anyone in the world today. Introduced to the piano at age 7 with a few boogie woogie classics, Weston quickly found a calling in music.
Playing his preferred laid-back Chicago style American blues to the louder British blues. Steve Weston captures any audience with unique charisma be it as a performer within the band, or as the leader with his own combo West Weston’s Bluesonics. In the last decade we have seen West Weston touring extensively with Mud Morganfield [Son of Muddy Waters], taking on the harmonica role with Trickbag, Sweden’s finest houserockin’ rhythm blues band and touring with Roger Daltrey. He also played on the chart topping Wilko Johnson/Roger Daltrey album ‘Goin Back Home.’
Weston ranks among the very best harp players on the European blues scene. His work on the harp is deep in the tradition of harmonica masters Sonny Boy Williamson 2 and Little Walter while at the same time pushing that tradition forward.
The Bluesonics lineup will be
Paul Garner, guitar (15 years playing with Steve)
Loris Peverani, drums
Francesca Shaw, double bass

St Mary’s Sessions Dorking - TOUKI - Saturday 7th of October
JUST A FEW TICKETS REMAINING!
**** “Scintillating…the sequel to Ali Farka Touré & Ry Cooder’s Talking Timbuktu, revisited and enriched with unique kora-banjo-acoustic guitar combinations of a rare elegance.” – Rolling Stone France. ****
Touki are the band that brought St Mary's Sessions into being and we are thrilled to be welcoming them back early on in our third season. St Mary's provides the perfect backdrop and intimate setting to showcase Touki's captivating sound. Their second release focuses on climate change and environmental activism, drawing together West African fables, current socio-economic and political challenges facing both developing countries and western ones, and from personal stories and experiences to bring awareness to the pressing need for immediate solutions to this giant crisis affecting us all. As a result, this project is not some producer-driven collaboration, but the original fruit borne of a genuine dream to communicate curiosity, raise important issues, and bring different worlds together through music. Here the kora dances playfully with and around the banjo, the guitar, the fiddle and the cello; the calabash and other percussion add powerful, driving beats; and silky voices entrance the listener. The influences are many, and rather than remaining in any one tradition, the touki – the musical voyage itself – is the destination.
FOR MORE INFORMATION & TO BOOK TICKETS :
Touki - Unique Senegalese, Franco-American World music for our times Touki; Senegalese kora, finger picking guitar, bass & violin. Previewing their 2nd album 'Plastic Man', World music with heart & insight.

Saturday the 9th of September
BOOK TICKETS - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/nigel-price-organ-trio-tickets-678514062827?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=listing&utm-source=cp&aff=ebdsshcopyurl
Nigel - who led his organ trio to pick up the 2010 Parliamentary Jazz Award for “best jazz ensemble” is one of the most highly regarded and in demand guitarists on the UK jazz scene today.
He spent three years with UK funk legends - the James Taylor Quartet, was voted No.1 in the British Jazz Awards for “best guitarist” (the trio also won ‘best small group’ that year) and is also a regular performer at Ronnie Scott’s, where he’s played around 600 times.
His blend of flowing bebop lines and deep blues feeling has made him popular with jazz, blues and funk audiences across the World.
The organ trio provides a hard hitting, immediate and undiluted message and this band has toured the UK 8 times, establishing itself as one of the most prolific British jazz bands of the last two decades.
Jim Watson is an utter legend, having shown the World his talents with outfits like Us3, The Brand New Heavies and Incognito, as well as with jazz legends like Jim Mullen, Bobby Watson and even James Moody!
The effervescent, explosive and absurdly groovy Joel Barford is perhaps the most exciting drum talent in the UK right now, and spurs this tight little unit on to even greater heights.

MEET THE BAND
Nigel Price is known for his clear, no nonsense, driving approach to jazz guitar and has steadily become one of the UK’s foremost exponents of the instrument. Starting his professional career in his early 20s, Nigel toured Europe with various reggae and funk bands before settling on a solo guitar career and turning his attention to jazz. Citing early influences as Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Nigel honed his craft by attending gigs and sitting in with the players of the time. He has played for Van Morrison (Keep Me Singing) and supported Gladys Knight at The Royal Albert Hall and appeared over 500 times at London's Ronnie Scotts. Musically, his blend of flowing bebop lines, deep blues sensibility and his mastery of chording continue to delight audiences and fellow musicians alike.
Ross Stanley is not only one of the greatest ever UK musicians, he also plays a real B3 Hammond Organ complete with 2 Leslie speakers.
Joel Barford is the man of the moment and has been causing a stir across the UK and further afield with his incredible drumming ability. He was featured in the ‘Taking Off’ section of Jazzwise magazine.
Together they form perhaps one of the most hard hitting, dynamic and exciting jazz groups on the scene today.
