The Diggers’ Walk Centenary Celebration - New Year’s Eve 2019
The centenary celebration and official opening of “The Diggers’ Walk” on New Years’ Eve 2019 December 31st; will be an excellent opportunity to enjoy a community event and showcase our town. Jamestown Development Association (JDA), together with representatives from National Trust, Lions, Apex, Red Cross and R&SL have worked hard to plan the event. Save the date and spend the afternoon viewing displays in the RSL Rooms, National Trust Museum, History Centre and Sir Hubert Wilkins Visitor Centre. From 5pm enjoy a coffee along the banks of Belalie Creek on Cumnock Street and then the evening from 6pm, when local groups and organisations will provide food, static displays, children’s activities, live musical entertainment and laser light display. So come along and support your local organisations on the night. A World War I re-enactment group from the region and interstate will be a highlight, leading into the official part of the evening at 8pm, following which Geoffrey Graham, a theatrical entertainer, poet, muso and actor from Eaglehawk Victoria, will weave stories, verse and songs about WWI to engage audiences in the riveting performance “Voices of War.” Combining his talent for verse, song, and larrikinism, Geoffrey paints a delightful picture of the Aussie soldier - inventive, ingenious, passionate, persistent, and patriotic. “Feel the excitement of the calling to battle, the emotion of the conscription debate, the hardship of men at the front, the compassion of nurses, and the pain of those waiting at home” For those who want to stay and see in the New Year, bar facilities and live musical entertainment will be available until 1am.
