This might be controversial but…

Font can make or break a design.

Choosing the right fonts can truly transform your design, making it more readable and appealing.

Here are three tips to help you select and pair fonts like a pro:

1) Contrast is Key - Combine a serif and a sans-serif to create a dynamic look. The contrast makes your design more visually interesting and helps guide the reader’s eye.

2) Keep it in the Family - Using different weights and styles from the same font family can provide consistency while adding variety to your layout.

3) Limit Your Selection - Stick to a maximum of three fonts in a single design to maintain clarity and cohesion. Too many fonts can make your work look cluttered.

I’m going to share a secret with you…

This was one of my FAVOURITE rebranding projects in a hot minute!

I am sooo thrilled to unveil the rebranding for The Beauty Studio, formerly known as Elegant Beauty by Emma!

Located in Long Eaton, this beauty salon specialises in nails, waxing, eye enhancements, and holistic treatments, and they needed a brand new look to match their exceptional services.

Emma had a clear vision - she wanted a luxurious mix of black and gold, to complement the blush pink hues of her salon's walls and furniture.

She sketched her initial ideas, handed them to me, and I ran with it, creating something truly magical!

What I did:

• Integrated Emma’s preferred colour scheme seamlessly with the salon’s chic interior.

• Designed a sophisticated, cohesive brand identity that enhances the customer experience both visually and physically.

• Tied together the branding and the physical space to ensure synergy and continuity, boosting the overall client experience.

This project was a massive undertaking, and I loved every minute of it!

The result?

A harmonious blend of interior and branding that not only reflects The Beauty Studio's elegance but also creates a unified, immersive experience for every customer.

In a world full of digital tools aimed at boosting productivity, my go-to is surprisingly simple: a classic pen and paper to-do list!

It might seem old fashioned, but there's something undeniably satisfying about physically ticking off completed tasks, especially with my favourite pastel green highlighter.

I’m not sure if you already know this…

But, I have a rare condition called Hereditary Multiple Exostoses (HME).

This means that I’ve had to have a number of surgeries and is part of the reason why I chose to start my business as I can be flexible about how I work.

By not having to commute, or having fixed hours of work, I am able to choose when and where I work. Sometimes this means working from my desk, the sofa or even the bath! 🛁

The best thing is that I can balance looking after my health whilst still getting to SMASH my client work!

I have another surgery planned for the July 17th, so will be out of the office for a week or two. I’ll still be working, it’s just that I may be a bit slower at replying to messages and emails during this time.

July is Disability Pride Month!

This month I want to highlight and celebrate dynamic disabilities. A dynamic disability refers to a condition or impairment that varies in severity and impact over time, day-to-day or when in a ‘flare’.

Many chronic illnesses are referred to as dynamic disabilities, and a large amount of dynamic disabilities are also invisible.

Throwback to 2 weeks ago when I saw the INCREDIBLE Taylor Swift at The Eras Tour, featuring my gorgeous light up walking stick from Neo-Walk!

Without my stick, and other medical necessities, I likely wouldn't have managed all the walking and physical exhaustion this kind of event takes.

Dynamic disability may be unpredictable, but it doesn’t mean the disability isn’t real.

Having good days doesn’t mean we faked the bad days. Our symptoms and ability to manage our symptoms varies week to week, day to day and even hour by hour.

All disabled people are valid, whether you feel symptoms all the time, some of the time or on or off.

You’re no more ‘valid’ on your visible days, than your invisible days.

This BEST part of my job is getting fantastic feedback from my clients!!

First of all I want to thank all of my amazing clients for their support and kind words last month.

It’s these kind words and the knowledge that my work is helping to support others reach their dreams and make their day to day life easier that keep me motivated and inspired to keep working, even on days when I don’t feel like it!

Little and Large Coaching is an online fitness and nutrition coaching client.

They came to us for branding and design.

Here was the brief given:

• Target Audience: Men and women aged 18-50

• Desired Customer Feel: Welcoming, approachable, and knowledgeable

Logo Requirements:

✅ Colour Scheme: Initially black and white to facilitate clothing printing, open to exploring colour options

✅ Style: Professional yet fun, with thin lines and capital letters (non-bold)

✅ Iconography: A panda engaged in a gym-related activity, like weightlifting, symbolising friendliness and uniqueness

There is a LOT more that goes into designing than just creating an aesthetically pleasing brand.

Creating a logo that balances professionalism with fun was a unique challenge. The choice of a panda doing weightlifting captures the essence of uniqueness and approachability.

By keeping the logo black and white, we maintained versatility for various applications, particularly in clothing, while also leaving room for future colour incorporation based on brand evolution.

The resulting logo perfectly reflects Little and Large Coaching's ethos of being approachable and expert in the fitness field. It stands out in a crowded market with its unique imagery and tailored style, appealing directly to the target demographic of busy individuals seeking effective and enjoyable fitness solutions.

With the logo established, the next phase involved rolling out the brand across various digital platforms, ensuring consistency and preparing for a successful launch back in April 2023.

This might surprise you…

There's this notion that life with a disability is constantly fraught with limitations and sadness.

Today, I want to share a bit about the realities of living with a disability, countering some common misconceptions with my personal experiences.

While there are undoubtedly challenges, my life is also filled with laughter, achievements, and lots of love.

Adventure? Absolutely—it just looks a bit different for me. Whether I'm lost in a fantasy novel, crafting something new, or enjoying a movie marathon with Nathan and our cheeky gecko Percy, I ensure every day is fulfilling.

Independence is another area where expectations don't match reality.

Yes, I use mobility aids and have adapted my environment, but these tools enhance my ability to live autonomously and pursue a career I love, often right from my cosy bed!

I'm here to tell you that my disability neither defines nor confines me; it simply shapes the way I navigate my exciting life.

I have to factor in additional rest days, I take medication, and use assistance aids. These and more help me live and enjoy a ‘normal’ life. Whatever ‘normal’ is.
