CANADA'S VISA-FREE AIR TRAVEL POLICY CAN BENEFIT NIGERIANS — RIF TRUST, MANAGER

During this period that is characterised by increased global connectivity, Canada has evolved with current realities by expanding its visa-free air travel policy and Can+ Visa Programme, which affects Caribbean countries offering Citizenship-by-Investment (CBI) programmes.

However, not only Caribbean countries can benefit from this programme; it has been stated that Nigerians can also benefit from Canada’s new policy on visa-free air travel, according to RIF Trust, a part of the Latitude Group.

Citizenship-by-Investment and Residency-by-Investment programmes have become popular choices and “Plan Bs” for Nigerians and their families, and many have been able to actualize their dreams using the established platform of RIF Trust, one of the leading international investment migration advisory firms, which has assisted over 6,000 clients and their families to secure global access through Citizenship and Residency-by-Investment programmes.

According to RIF, Nigerians who have an Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, or St. Lucia second passport now have visa-free air travel via an eTA to Canada, adding that “however, if you’re travelling as a citizen of these countries, you must have held a Canadian visa within the past 10 years or possess a valid United States non-immigrant visa to qualify.

This enables you to apply for an eTA instead of a traditional visa when visiting Canada by air.

“Canada also announced that Dominica and Grenada citizens are eligible for the Can+ Visa programme. This speeds up the process of applying for a visitor visa, and it is available for short-term stays in Canada.

Instead of the typical 14–21-day waiting period, it takes five days at most. You will need to have held a Canadian visa over the past 10 years or be in possession of a valid US visa in order to qualify.

‘By removing barriers, Canada has opened its doors wider. It invites citizens of these countries to discover its rich tapestry of breathtaking landscapes, vibrant cities, and diverse cultural experiences.

“Also, with the introduction of the Can+ visa programme for Dominica and Grenada citizens, Nigerians with this passport can now speed up the processing of the visitor visa, which is available for short-term stays in Canada,” he added.

CANADA IMPLEMENTS FRAMEWORK TO IDENTIFY UNIVERSITIES ELIGIBLE TO WELCOME INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Canada’s Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has unveiled an ambitious plan to revolutionize its International Student Program (ISP) by implementing the Trusted Institution framework into its student visa system by 2024.
The framework ensures that higher education institutions that meet the demanding criteria will earn the designation of “Trusted Institutions”.
Although the complete impact of this acknowledgement is not yet revealed, the IRCC has outlined potential benefits which include a streamlined application processing for potential students applying to these institutions.
This strategic move represents a crucial advancement in the overhaul of the ISP, as it redefines the assessment standards for universities, improves the effectiveness of the application procedure, and reinforces the standing of recognized institutions among the global international student populace.
This means that prospective international students from Nigeria need to identify Canadian universities with the Trusted Framework before applying to avoid potential student visa rejection.
Ensuring the reliability of higher institutions
A key element of the upcoming transformation is to completely transform the evaluation process for higher institutions eligible to welcome international students.
Although specific details are yet to be revealed, those familiar with it indicate that the framework centres on a thorough evaluation of institutions using a predefined set of criteria.
These criteria encompass sustainable enrollment protocols, precise verification of authentic international students, rigorous supervision and adherence reporting, and the assurance of a secure and enriching atmosphere for global scholars.
WHY THIS CAME ABOUT

The origins of the Trusted Institution framework can be traced back to a crucial presentation hosted by the IRCC in June of 2023.
This disclosure was directed at key representative bodies and stakeholders and was a result of an extensive assessment of the International Student Program (ISP), which was conducted as part of the wider Strategic Immigration Review.
The notion emerges from the Strategic Immigration Review, in conjunction with a comprehensive assessment of the ISP. This assessment identified several areas of concern, such as:
Apprehensions regarding the vulnerability of international students, especially in light of recent accounts of exploitation or mistreatment of students.
A substantial growth rate in the volume of applications.
The imperative for a greater degree of diversity within the international student demographic.
This thorough examination brought to light significant issues, including the susceptibility of international students, a considerable rise in application numbers, and the urgent necessity for increased diversity within the international student community.
Presently, all Canadian institutions that host international students are required to possess the status of a Designated Learning Institution, granted by their respective provincial or territorial authorities.
This framework brings about a notable distinction between institutions holding the Trusted designation and those that do not foster a secure, diverse, and enriching academic environment for students from around the globe.

'No Evidence, You Go Explain Tire', Burna Boy's Popular Saying Appears in UNIUYO Exam Question

A saying popularised by Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu also known as Burna Boy, "No evidence, you go explain tire", has appeared in an examination question from the University of Uyo in Akwa Ibom State.

The saying appeared in question five of the exam written by 400-level students of the Department of History and International Studies.

Facebook user, Effiong G Victor, shared a copy of the examination question paper on a Facebook platform, Yorochi Tv.

The question reads, “'How is the nature of history demonstrated in the trending cliche of Nigeria's music icon, Burna Boy, that: "no evidence, you go explain tire"?'

Burna Boy's "No evidence, you go explain tire" started during the singer’s Instagram live session with fans.

While speaking Burna Boy said, “If you no make am, no evidence say you try your best. You go dey explain tire. You go explain explain explain because no evidence say you try your best if you no make am.”

ZOO TALES FROM A NIGERIAN GRADUATE

A graduate in zoology was having difficulties in finding job.
He saw an advert in one of the daily newspapers for a job at a zoo.
At the interview, the manager told him that their Gorilla which has been a tourists attraction has died, so they needed someone to dress and disguise as a Gorilla since they have not been able to afford a new one.
The graduate was embarrassed but since the salary was very okay and attractive, he accepted the job offer.

The lion leaped onto him, knocked him to the ground and whispered onto one of his ear:
