Webb’s First Deep Field (NIRCam Image)
Thousands of galaxies flood this near-infrared image of galaxy cluster SMACS 0723. High-resolution imaging from the NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope combined with a natural effect known as gravitational lensing made this finely detailed image possible.
James Webb Space Telescope, world’s biggest and most powerful space telescope is set for launch on Dec. 25, 2021 7:20 AM EST. With a cost of around $10 billion and a collaboration of three different space agencies JWST is going to be a big thing in Astronomy!!
What do Olympic athletes & objects in space have in common? Answer: matter in motion, often in extreme examples. NASA's AstrOlympics project looks at the physics of motion and the similarities between sport & space.
Andromeda galaxy in infrared with a blue, x-ray overlay.
Equipped with high-definition cameras,Shane Kimbroug of NASA Astronauts and Thomas Pesquet of ESA - European Space Agency will venture outside the International Space Station to continue installing new, roll-up solar arrays tomorrow, Jun 25.
Today is the northern Summer Solstice.
A “see-through” galaxy that lacks dark matter.
🔥The Flame Nebula is located about 1,400 light years from Earth near the easternmost star in Orion's Belt, Alnitak. This marvelous emission nebula is about 15 light years across and it contains a cluster of hundreds of young stars at its center.
IC 4406, a dying star.
IC 4406 exhibits a high degree of symmetry. The nebula's left and right halves are nearly mirror images of the other.
NGC4565, a spiral galaxy is viewed edge-on from planet Earth. Also known as the Needle galaxy for its narrow profile. NGC 4565 is about 40 million light years away and spans some 100,000 light years across!!
