Stories Behind the Mask Series #3 - Mr Loh Ah Chai

When COVID-19 virus hit, 76 year old Mr Loh Ah Chai found himself trapped at home and unable to go out. He got to know about Medical Aids by SG Knights (MASK) through a friend from his church.

It was an opportunity for him to earn some pocket money and he also sees this as a meaningful job. He threads the ear loops each mask by hand, with the help of his family members. Mr Loh hopes that more people will support this cause by purchasing the masks and for everyone to help one another through these tough times. He said in Mandarin : “多人买比较好啦。在这个疫情方面可以有一点点贡献啦。可以出一点力，又可以赚一点零用钱，一举两得”。

Stories Behind the Mask Series #2 - Ms Linda Wati

When the circuit breaker measures were put into place, Linda found herself cooped up at home for 3 months with no income and nothing to occupy her time with. This was damaging in many aspects. She still had household bills to pay and had to support her teenage daughter who is still schooling.

On top of that, she had to take care of her health issues. She also found herself feeling very idle. A friend introduced her to Medical Aids by SG Knights’ initiative, and she came on board to utilize her sewing skills. She feels less bored and is happy to make some small income to support her family.

Stories Behind the Mask Series #1 - Ms Lim Lee Lee

Due to the COVID-19 virus, Ms Lim who is a freelancer found her workshops and motivation talks postponed indefinitely which led to a loss in income.

She found out about the Medical Aids by SG Knights (MASK) initiative through Dr Stephen Chang, and this served as an opportunity for her to keep herself active, earn some income and support the social cause.

She is glad to be part of the production of these masks and hopes the public will get to know more about this product. In her view, the mask is a quality product, reusable, minimizes waste and carbon footprint which is beneficial to our environment.

“Masks do not come easily and we should not depend on the government. This cause also supports people like our migrant workers who have contributed towards our nation.”, said Lee Lee.

We were honoured to have Minister of State for Ministry of Manpower, Mr Zaqy Mohamad, to help us present 1,000 of our masks to a group of Migrant Workers who are still serving in the essential services in our community.

This would not have been possible without the pledges/orders from our supporters, as well as those who volunteered with us. It was a special moment for us to express our appreciation for the migrant workers' contributions to Singapore.

We are thankful for the opportunity to try to help some people in Singaore and be able to bless people in need with our masks and through its production. Thanks again to all our supporters and please share with your friends. !

This is what we have all been waiting for! We are pleased to share that we have started delivering the masks to you yesterday. Thank you very much for your patience and support.

These masks are hand sewn and packed in Singapore. It is with your support that we are able to provide small jobs for those in need and bless those with limited resources to purchase masks. More than 50 people have been involved in our production and we would keep you updated on the donation of masks. We would also like to appreciate those who have provided pro bono services, without which we would not have been able to progress as smoothly.

For those who have gotten our masks, please remember to wash them and soak in water before use. Coloured markings (if any) would fade after washing.
