My wish is to stay always like this, living quietly in a corner of nature.
- Claude Monet
Monet rented this house at Vétheuil, he made arrangements with the owner to landscape the terraces and plant his own garden.
While be took up residence in Vétheuil, it was also one of intense productivity. Over the course of the three years he spent there, Monet executed nearly three hundred paintings, and his art shifted away from scenes of modern life toward a more focused exploration of landscape and atmospheric effects.
The boy with the wagon is Monet's young son, and on the steps behind him are other members of his extended household.

Étretat: The Beach and the Falaise d'Amont By Claude Monet
Oil on canvas
Claude Monet visited Étretat, on the Normandy coast in September 1885, on holiday with his companion and their respective children. During his three month stay, he began work on 51 different canvases, which he took back to his studio in Giverny to further refine. Though some of the vantage points that Monet chose to paint from were physically dangerous to navigate, the naturally beautiful rock formations on the coast proved to be a subject worthy of the effort.
Étretat: The Beach and the Falaise d’Amont is one of four pieces depicting the famous marine arch of Étretat.

Étienne Léopold Trouvelot was a French artist and astronomer who, during his lifetime, produced roughly 7,000 astronomical illustrations. Pictured here is one of fifteen of his most recognized and praised illustrations, published by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1881.
Trouvelot took his astronomical observations and translated them into stunning art using pastels as his medium.
To create his drawings, Trouvelot projected images from his telescope to ruled paper using a gridded reticle etched in glass. He would then use the projections to create a sketch of the cosmic beauty that he saw through his telescope, which he then enhanced with pastels.
