Microbiology and Immunity, a graduate certificate program at the University of Arizona Health Sciences, equips students and professionals with medically relevant knowledge areas fundamental to the understanding and development of modern antibody therapies and vaccines.
The coursework—now offered fully online and available to learners around the world—builds core skills, including scientific literature evaluation, research design and analysis, data interpretation and problem solving. Upon completion of the certificate, students will be prepared to pursue careers in research, public health and infection control, or may plan to seek further education, such as graduate or medical school.

Kartik Moolraj Dattani is studying the mechanisms leading to heart disease in the lab of Jared Churko, PhD, during his global research internship as part of a dual-degree program.

While there, they interacted with the students and staff affiliated with the Cellular and Molecular Medicine dual-degree program.

Microbiology and Immunity, a new online graduate certificate program at the University of Arizona Health Sciences, is now available to equip students and professionals with medically relevant knowledge in areas fundamental to the understanding and development of modern antibody therapies and vaccines.
The fully online coursework builds core skills in students, including scientific literature evaluation, research design and analysis, data interpretation and problem solving. Upon completion of the certificate, students will be prepared to pursue careers in research, public health and infection control, or may plan to seek further education, such as graduate or medical school.

Delivered in Spanish and open to UArizona students of all majors, this online course focuses on building the foundation for selecting and applying community health education methods, becoming a health education professional, promoting multicultural diversity and social marketing concepts.
Instructor Gabriela Valdez, PhD, director of global health programs and global education at the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health will provide an overview of community health education and its role in improving the health of individuals and populations, including the importance of contact tracing to mitigate community transmission. Students will learn to effectively communicate health education messages and positively influence the norms and behaviors of both individuals and communities. Practical guides in community health education will involve steps for implementing skills, tips and techniques for successful implementation, strategies for overcoming challenges, and expected outcomes.

Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology, a new online graduate certificate program at the University of Arizona Health Sciences, is now open for enrollment for Fall 2022.
In this program, housed in the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, you will learn about the determinants, mechanisms and systems that promote and maintain the health, safety, well-being, and appropriate development of children and their families in order to enhance the future health and welfare of society.
✔ Only 12 credits

✔ Open to students and professionals around the world
Upon completion of the graduate certificate, which can be accomplished in as little as one year, you will be equipped contribute to the improvement of the health status of women, children and adolescents.
This program is affiliated with the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree. Students who successfully complete the graduate certificate and are later admitted to the MPH program may use all units toward the MPH if they choose either the MCH or the Health Behavior Health Promotion concentration.

Students in GHI 414/514 will learn from Gabriela Valdez, PhD, director of global health programs and global education at the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, as they examine how culture influences health communication.
In this course, open to undergraduate and graduate students of all majors, students will gain an understanding of intercultural communication theories and will be able to apply them to become more effective health communicators. A variety of local and global contexts will be explored, including health literacy, health promotion campaigns, healthcare interactions, global health collaborations, and more.

Five students from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in India arrived at the University of Arizona Health Sciences campus this week!
🔬 Kartik Moolraj Dattani will be working in the lab of Jared Churko, PhD, assistant professor in Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson.
🔬 Varna Sree Kumar will be working in the lab of Donata Vercelli, MD, professor in the department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the College of Medicine – Tucson, associate director of the Asthma and Airway Disease Research Center, and director of the Arizona Center for the Biology of Complex Diseases.
🔬 Ardra Mohanan will be working in the lab of Gregory Thatcher, PhD, professor in Pharmacology and Toxicology and endowed chair in Drug Discovery at the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy.
🔬 Manish Manoharan will be working in the lab of Carol Gregorio, PhD, professor and department head of Cellular and Molecular Medicine and co-director of the Sarver Heart Center, and Czarina M. and Humberto S. Lopez Endowed Chair for Excellence in Cardiovascular Research at the College of Medicine – Tucson.
🔬 Gopika Sumitha will be working in the lab of Gregory Rogers, PhD, professor and associate department head of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the College of Medicine – Tucson.
These students are participating in a summer research internship as part of a global dual-degree program in which they are concurrently earning a master's degree from Amrita and a master's in Cellular and Molecular Medicine from the University of Arizona. Through their experience in the dual-degree program, students obtain fundamental knowledge of the normal structure and function of the major organs of the human body, the major types of diseases that afflict those organs, as well as opportunities, strategies, and approaches to prevent or treat such diseases.
The program can be completed entirely in India, or, as in the case of these five students, include a summer lab internship on campus in Tucson, Arizona.
