Why do you Run? 29/04/2020

Well if you're a running enthusiast like me, this question wouldn't surprise you. For non-runners they are baffled by folks like me who run almost 3-4 times a week and for what purpose? Cant blame 'em, coz a few years back I used to feel the same. What on earth are these idiots doing, tormenting their body and knees to this physical torture. [ 578 more words ]

40s – Ruminations and Reflections 13/12/2019

Men are like Wine; some turn to Vinegar, best of the lot improve with age 🙂 I made it alive through my 30s, albeit literally, and tiptoed into 40 last year. There were a few interesting turn of events that metamorphosised in the lead-up years. With a steady career, financial freedom, reorientation in tastes / interests in life you cease doing things just for gaining acceptability. [ 489 more words ]

Epilogue to Sandakphu Trek- Smitten by Sleepingbuddha 28/05/2019

More than a month after the trek, am typing away sitting in this Volvo BMTC bus, cocooned from the cacophonous Bangalore morning traffic. I close my eyes and am teleported to Sandakphu or Sabargram vantage point, the grandiose panorama of Himalayas. Snap of a finger, and here am sitting on the ledge of the grass hill overlooking the sleepingbuddha. I am in the front row of a symphony, albeit visual, gazing at the majestic glacial frontage of Kanchanjunga and its associated peaks wide-eyed and mouth agape, as the first time. [ 640 more words ]

Day 6- Descend to reality ! 07/05/2019

As I reflect back on the final night of the trek , with a decadent full moon setting in an idyllic hamlet up in the mountains, last few days were a dream. The village on the embankment of a river and the valley awashed with moonlit, a sparkling river with its boulders glistening and the slopes around decked with incandescent lights from those tiny homes and the flowing stream crashing against the boulders for music, these are nothing short of a spectacle. Day 5: Gazing at the Kanchenjunga, enthralled and stupified 05/05/2019

Sabargram vantage view Molley campsite is one of the most beautiful one, I have been to. Nestled in a valley surrounded by mountains, making it perfect for pitching tents and for short hikes abound in surrounding rolling hills. Behind our campsite was the Singalila mountains and lush green valleys. As a perfect contrast, there is snow white pristine Himalayas on the opposite as far as our eyes could see. [ 629 more words ]

Day 4- To Sabargram; with Sleepingbuddha as a passerby 02/05/2019

You've slept through the night in a campsite at the topmost point in W.Bengal, battered by winds howling all night over your tents, supposedly overlooking the stupendous 'Sleepingbuddha'. I say supposedly, coz all the previous evening we couldn't catch a glimpse of the mountains obscured by wind and heavy fog since we arrived that late afternoon. With all the curbed anticipation to have a tryst with this surreal spectacle, we were hoping to catch a glimpse of next morning, weather gods permitting. [ 822 more words ]

Day 03: Yes-No-Yes to Sandakphu 29/04/2019

Daybreak in mountains make you feel like you're in an exoplanet, not that I have been in any extraterrestrial expedition to make out one. What I meant, as some of you intelligent beings would've already realized, you feel out of this world taken away by the sheer beauty and colossal views. Especially if you had a foggy evening the previous evening, like us, more often than not greeted as you push yourselves out from a warm cozy bed by crystal clear mornings. [ 826 more words ]

Day 2 – To Kalipokhri- Kidney bean shaped lake (10,700ft) ; sleeping in Nepal & Dining in India 27/04/2019

With no luxury today to p**p with a view, morning business is about "Do It Wipe It Forget It", that too with just a splash of freezing water on your derrière, unless you desire hypothermia. With a heavily overcast morning sky, we missed the Tumling view of sleepingbuddha, especially Kanchenjunga. Much anticipated Kanchenjunga vantage view had to hold to its reins until we reach Sandakphu. [ 614 more words ]

Day 1 – pine forest, open meadows & a hard ascent to Tumling 25/04/2019

courtesy: IH As I squat to finish my morning business and when the view from my toilet isn't the customary dark hole, rather the below breathtaking view of golden rays breaking apart the dawn clouds. Do you need any other reason to stay in this tiny hamlet of Joubari? That was our campsite for you. You may extrapolate the picturesque setting , if not still convinced by the campsite pics i shared in my day 0 blog. [ 738 more words ]
