META Peace Team Northern Hub
We are a hub of the Meta Peace Team, based in Lansing. We are trained in de-escalation techniques.
The purpose of MPT is to promote non-violence and to be a peaceful presence in a potentially violent situation in our community.
Hey Everyone,
Our Northern Hub was planning a live, in-person nonviolence training for this fall; however, with the new Covid variant threat, we have postponed the training to March 4 - 6th, 2022. It will be held at the Neahtawanta Inn. Details will follow after the new year, when we can better discern the situation with the pandemic and determine if we can meet together.
In the meantime, there are two virtual Violence De-Escalation Trainings: one Sept. 18 - 19; another Nov. 6 - 7. You can find the details here: https://www.metapeaceteam.org/our-next-nonviolence-skills-training
This is the training that qualifies people to be an active part of the Meta Peace Team.
We are currently hoping to grow our ranks here in northern Michigan by having more people take the training.
Please spread the word about the 2 virtual trainings and consider attending yourself. Even if you've had the training, a refresher is always helpful.
Our Next Nonviolence Skills Training | metapeaceteam We’re all aware that both the pandemic and the aftermath of the election has made things very tense, with notable increases in divisiveness and "Us vs. Them" thinking. As concerned people, we will begin to explore how active, assertive nonviolence can make a difference: What does it mean, how ...
Hey Everyone! The next By-stander Intervention Training is next Saturday, May 22nd! It's virtual; and WELL worth the effort! Here's part of the description:
Our emphasis will be on effective communication and
compassionate Bystander Intervention:
What to do when you’re alone and see someone being harassed.
What do you do when the someone being harassed is YOU?
Participants will learn and gain practice in specific skills and tools
that are useful both in conflict intervention situations and in daily life.
This 4-hour workshop allows participants to explore what it takes to successfully intervene in situations where they witness someone being harassed or bullied, and to interrupt escalating violence.

Please help us spread the word! Such important skills right now.

Being part of this team is not a large time commitment. AND, the skills you learn can be applied in many different circumstances in your daily life.
We are expanding our peace team presence in Northern Michigan; please let us know if you would like to be part of our team, helping to de-escalate potentially violent situations; there's a training you'll need to go through. In the meantime, here's a zoom event this Tuesday, March 23rd that explains the work of MPT and why it's so valuable. Please share.
