Still playing around with religious symbolism and the deeper connections we make with our work.

Thinking specifically of the portraits of Jesus, of the blessings and royal iconography for someone who's supposed to be of humble origins. Thinking of Dürer and how PI**ED people were at him for his self portrait, his "blatant" disrespect for the church (300 years AFTER he completed the piece, but I digress...)

Thinking about the weight we give to images, of the deeper meanings settled between layers of cracking paint.

Am I a narcissist for this? Blasphemous? Aren't I just doing the exact same thing as the Renaissance and Baroque painters? Aren't we *still* just trying to make sense of everything and where we fit within it all?
