REPUBLIC ACT NO. 8293

AN ACT PRESCRIBING THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY CODE AND ESTABLISHING THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OFFICE, PROVIDING FOR ITS POWERS AND FUNCTIONS, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

The State recognizes that an effective intellectual and industrial property system is vital to the development of domestic and creative activity, facilitates transfer of technology, attracts foreign investments, and ensures market access for our products. It shall protect and secure the exclusive rights of scientists, inventors, artists and other gifted citizens to their intellectual property and creations, particularly when beneficial to the people, for such periods as provided in this Act.

Thus, social media users who repost other peopleโ€™s photos or artworks without properly acknowledging the original photographer or artist, are violating intellectual property laws.

The caduceus features a staff entwined by two serpents, sometimes with wings on top, and can be found on medical uniforms, equipment, and other paraphernalia. The origin of the word, Caduceus, comes from the Greek quote '๐’ฆ๐‘’๐“‡๐“Ž๐“€๐‘’๐’พ๐‘œ๐“ƒ', which meansโ๐’ฝ๐‘’๐“‡๐’ถ๐“๐’น'๐“ˆ ๐“ˆ๐“‰๐’ถ๐’ป๐’ป.โž It was associated with the Greek god, Hermes, the messenger for the gods, who carried a winged staff with two snakes wrapped around it. The use of the symbol is very ironical as how can destructive creatures used to represent a healing purpose. The answer lies in the snakes characters of, skin shedding representing immortal life and sudden change in activity emphasizing transit from sickness to cure.
