Who doesnโt want a cold, sweet treat on a hot summer day?! Ice cream is a favorite American pastime and 97% of us LOVE ice cream. So much so we eat on average 20 pounds a year. The love is so great that 73% of us consume ice cream at least once a week.
I too love ice cream and have loved it since I was a child. My best memory is that my grandmother always had a ยฝ gallon of vanilla ice cream in the freezer just waiting for me. But now that Iโm a dietitian thereโs a couple of things that to me are bothersome about ice cream, or I should really clarify and say commercial ice cream, and itโs not the mixture of deliciousness that contains sugar, milk, and cream. We all know ice cream is a treat and that eating too much of it gives us way too many calories, sugar and fat in our diet but, is that all we are getting?

Discover the power of Calocurb, a supplement designed to aid in weight loss through its unique "bitter brake" mechanism. This natural formula uses Amarasateโข, an active ingredient from New Zealand hops, to curb appetite and reduce hunger pangs. Scientific studies have shown that Calocurb decreases food intake by sending signals to the gut to help manage fullness and satiety. Calocurb can be used alone or with medication (under supervision) to improve weight loss and blood sugar control.

Did you know that 75% of the food in the grocery store is processed food. Let that sink in for a minute. Historically, our calories have been โhome grownโ and delivered to us from farm to table but in the last 50 years that has changed with the creation of processed foods. What has also changed is our health! Chronic disease is now more prevalent in American society, with 60% of Americans suffering from a chronic disease such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and obesity. The answer to this dilemma just might be found on our plate.

Pro Tip:
The combination of medical weight loss drugs and a registered dietitian may be just what you need to lose those extra pounds and then keep them off.
As a dietitian I have found that most of us donโt have a skill set that helps us to maintain our weight loss, we just return to what we know. But what we know is what got us here!! This starts the cycle of weight loss and weight gain that so many people experience. These skills are beyond a โreduced calorie dietโ because diets donโt work. We need skills that help us to address our own life and our own needs. We need โnew and improvedโ skills and who better to help you find new habits but a food and nutrition expert.
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist services are generally a covered benefit on your health insurance plan.

Wow! Thatโs a great question. How and what we eat is so personal. Our eating habits are really given to us by our culture, our family, and our parents. I think when I talk about what I do I have to preface with I have a past! There is no perfection in what I do but what I know is if you incorporate these principles into your daily life and they start to show up just like brushing your teeth every day, your health pays you back! Here is how and what I eat and the things Iโve learned along the way.
Well, let the confessions begin!
There are a few things that really matter to our health when it comes to our eating patterns and behaviors. The first is how we eat, meaning our meal patterns. Eating three meals a day is something I have learned works for all of us. I would never take off on a road trip without gassing up the car to get me there, breakfast is important because our body has not been fueled since the previous day. I also try not to snack during the day or after dinner because my body needs time to process that meal before I eat again. This helps build metabolic resilience . . .

Change your mind, change your life.
A Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) has the experience and education to help address unhealthy relationships with food and put a nutrition and lifestyle plan together that is healthy for your mind and your body. Working with an RDN to improve your health through nutrition is typically a covered benefit on your health insurance plan.

Our diet is now being linked to our health issues and a poor diet has become a leading cause of death. The average American gets 60% of their calories from processed foods. Processed foods are manufactured, pre-packaged foods that typically have more than one ingredient that you never or rarely find in your kitchen. They often contain refined ingredients and artificial substances that provide little nutritional value.
The majority of the grocery store aisles are filled with processed foods. How do you even know which ones are good for you or not? The front of the package is chock full of marketing messages that are difficult to decipher such โlow fatโ, โgluten freeโ, dairy freeโ, etc. While using the ingredient list on the back of the package is complicated because there are so many different names that you may not recognize.
There is now an easy solution and it comes in the form of an app called YUKA. The YUKA app makes it very simple to determine which foods should be making their way into your grocery cart. This app is not tied to a manufacturer and their mission is to help us, the consumer, make better choices for our health. It can be overwhelming and time consuming to read every label in the grocery store and this app makes that easy.
Download the app and use it to scan the barcode on your package. It will give you all the information you need to know to make an informed decision as opposed to being told you โcanโt haveโ it!
If you feel you need additional support working with a registered dietitian nutritionist is typically a covered benefit on your health insurance plan.
