Morrinsville Ultimate

Congratulations to Hamish, Kate and Tony who played with ‘Hammertron: Past our Prime’ (Hamilton) for the 2024 NZ Masters Mixed Ultimate Championships over the weekend and won all six games on the way to a Gold medal!!!! A great weekend in some variable weather conditions in Hamilton.

WJUC day 6 update: Last games for both NZ teams were overnight. Katipō played Singapore and won 15-10 and then Colombia and won 15-6. Katipō therefore finished 9th overall (the margin between the teams positioned 4th to 9th was extremely close, many games decided by 1 or 2 points)
Over the 10 games Alex scored 9 points and threw 3 assists. He should be proud of his contribution to the Katipō campaign.
The NZ Women’s U20 team - Kahu climbed throughout the tournament to finish 5th. A great result for them!!

WJUC day 5 update: Katipō just had one game overnight vs Australia. It was a bit windy which caused a few more turnovers but Katipō came away with a 15-12 win. Alex was working hard on defence!!
Tonight they will play their last 2 games vs Singapore and then Colombia.

WJUC Day 4 update:
Game 6: Katipo had another narrow 13-15 loss to Italy.
Game 7: Katipo had a good 15-10 win over Germany.
That's the end of Pool Play. Unfortunately Katipo missed out on a place in the quarter finals by one spot. They will be playing to take 9th spot now.
Next game will be against Australia tonight.

WJUC Day 3 update:
Game 4- Katipō lost 13-15 to Belgium
Game 5- Katipō played their best game so far against one of the strongest teams- Canada. Canada won 15-12 in a great game. Alex played well and scored some great goals in both games off long runs to the end zone!!
Tonight’s games are against Italy and Germany. Expecting some more pretty close scores.

WJUC Update day 2:
Game 2 for Katipō unfortunately lost 13-14 to Japan.
Game 3 they won convincingly over China 15-1
Kahu (women) Game 2 beat Singapore 15-3 and Game 4 lost to France 8-15.

World Junior Ultimate Champs: First game completed this morning NZ Katipō vs Ireland. NZ win 15-2. Alex scored a goal.
NZ women’s U20- Kahu also played Ireland and won 15-2.

Morrinsville Ultimate indoor frisbee league is running Thursdays 5:30pm for 6-7pm games at the event centre from the 2nd of May. Our league is a super fun, family friendly way to get fit and meet new people. Ages 11-100. Enter as an individual or pull together a team of 6+ players. Thank you to everyone who participated or assisted with Morrinsville Hat IV - Ice Cream Edition. It was a beautiful day in Morrinsville and the fields were in pristine condition.
74 players mainly from the Waikato, Auckland and Bay of Plenty regions along with some international travelling friends participated in 6 teams with 5 games each. There were some great competitive Ultimate games and great spirit shown throughout the day.
It was awesome to see another large group of juniors competing and developing their skills.
It is great to see the friendships and comradery that is developing around this tournament and we look forward to enjoying the same fun in years to come. Until then keep having fun out on the frisbee fields wherever in the world you go!!
