Tennis Performance Biomechanics webinar in collaboration with Biomechanics Education

Tennis is a complex sport with multiple facets…

From serving to ground shots, running the width of the court & back, then executing the perfect drop shot, volley or smash. Tennis has it all! 🎾

So, what can you do to better understand how to improve these various aspects? 🤔

The answer lies in knowing the fundamentals of the anatomy & movement in order to be able to then build safe & successful programmes. 💪🏻

➡️In the first hour of this webinar, Pete () addresses this type of question by going back to basics to give you some intriguing insights into tennis anatomy. 🎾

➡️In the second hour: Rachel ( ) shares some of those ideas into how to better understand the biomechanics of your tennis player’s stroke & therefore how to improve the drive through power! 💥

👉These spine, shoulder and nerve assessments, programming & iMoveFreely interventions are literally game changers for any player pro or amateur! 💪🏻

➡️Australian former professional tennis player, Pat Cash had a shoulder problem which didn't settle down with PT or surgery. We did not diagnose the shoulder problem, but he couldn't serve as his shoulder wouldn't fully elevate. We checked his spine & shoulder biomechanics and within 6 weeks his shoulder pain settled as his key biomechanical pillars improved their function.
The problem was that his shoulder was being overloaded by the inefficiency of his key biomechanical pillars. OK So what ❓Well we sorted the pillars out and the shoulder was able to function more normally.

What’s in a shoulder? Well , should the question actually be, what’s outside the shoulder that you need to account for to ensure that the shoulder stays healthy? If you are curious about this and how it relates to swimming 🏊‍♀️ then click the link in the bio for details of our webinar with on Monday 13 December at 2pm GMT. It’s all about how to understand the biomechanics of swimming and avoid issues developing.

08/12/2021

Ever wondered what the functional anatomy of swimming is? Many of our clients have never been educated as to the key elements of swimming biomechanics. And we as practitioners might not have spent much time thinking about the myofascial and skeletal involvement. If that’s you, we have just the thing in our co-presented webinar with on Monday 13 Dec at 2pm GMT. Click on the link in bio for more!

So what relevance does the fascia stretching around the heel and into the foot have to cycling?

05/11/2021

Knowing how the kinetic chain responds to cycling 🚴‍♀️ is important. In the forward flexed position, the extreme nature of the position demands a lot from the hip, spine and of course the legs. We are going to look at how the myofascia distributes forces during cycling in our Monday 8th Nov, 2pm GMT webinar using our BodyMapping technique. So if you want to spend a couple of hours learning about that and the implications for training and avoiding injury, click the link in the bio!

The superficial back line is a collection of structures that come under great pressure during cycling 🚴‍♀️ Do you have a feel for what that might mean for your or your cycling clients? If yes, then great and if no, maybe you might want to see it mapped out on a cyclist, head to toe. Understand the geography, visualise cycling biomechanics. Create more incisive programmes. When you look down, is this what you (as a practitioner) visualise underneath? Is it that important you might ask? Well... yes. In a word. Here’s an example why - you are observing a client carrying out a single leg movement with a top down rotation driven by the arms. And you observe that they are struggling to control that rotation by the time it reaches the sub talar joint and eventually the MTP joints. So you suggest that they take their shoes off to improve the communication of their feet with the floor - the splaying of the met heads for stability and even force distribution. When they ask why you asked them to take their shoes off, you are the one who knows the answer. And you are the one who helps profess them more effectively. That’s why they keep coming back to you.

28/05/2021

WEBINAR ALERT! What’s a foot? Yes, you heard right. What is a foot? Before we set about programming for clients and patients, it is a pretty important question to answer. Is it just the bit on the end of your leg? Is it the answer to all your worldly woes? How does it even work? How do you know if it is functioning well or if it is limited by certain factors? Our next webinar with is on Friday, June 18th, 2-4pm, GMT and is designed to simplify the biomechanics of the foot (and ankle) so that you can have a more informed view, better assess and programme around it. The deltoid muscle. Such elegant lines and versatility. Don’t leave home without one...but what are it’s actions? Answers on a postcard 🤔

20/04/2021

Once you have functional anatomy embedded in your mind’s eye, how do you use it? Do you analyses every movement your client makes? Do you visualise the myofascial lines and convert that into solid programming? Do you analyse the impact of injury niggles on movement capability and adapt accordingly? We’ll never know it all and goodness knows it’s a complex business - but we can aspire to do better, learn more and importantly use it.

In the topsy turvy world of healthcare, we ask, is the phrase ‘lazy glutes’ itself a lazy phrase we use in healthcare, wellness and fitness? Or is there a lot to it? Continuing our spine series... when you begin to look at how the myofascia lengthens and loads in all three planes, you realise that the spine is more than capable of flexing and rotating. The pivotal factor is shared force distribution through upper and lower body tissues to reduce the risk of injury and increase the capacity for strong, smooth movement ex*****on. The body is a globally orientated organism - think kinetic chain and myofascial lines coordinated by the brain to achieve economical movement. Grace and power combined. When it comes down to it, anatomy is not just anatomy, it is the very basis of every client you work with.

Making the invisible visible!

If you want to understand how to care for the human body, you must first see it, feel it and map it.

BodyMapping on a real person brings your knowledge to life and converts it into practical excellence, whatever your discipline.
