Today, on the anniversary of her passing, Sepsis Alliance remembers Erin “Bug” Flatley.

In April 2002, Erin, an aspiring teacher, underwent a routine outpatient procedure. Soon after, she developed an infection that went unrecognized and untreated by medical professionals. The infection progressed to septic shock and, ultimately, took her young life. This tragic event inspired her father, Dr. Carl Flatley, to establish Sepsis Alliance.

He shares, “I continue my work every day because of Erin, and because of all of you who have been affected by sepsis and support the mission of Sepsis Alliance. Thank you for celebrating Founder’s Day with me, and for your part in remembering Erin.”
