30 years ago today, L7's "Bricks Are Heavy" was released. Described as "catchy tunes and mean vocals on top of ugly guitars and a quick but thick bottom of cast-iron grunge." by Entertainment Weekly

It reached #1 on Billboards Heatseekers chart, satisfying the grunge-metal fans as this was their dirtiest and heaviest album to date.

Released: April 14, 1992
Recorded: 1991-1992

"Back Home”

Of all the projects we have taken on recently, this has to be one of my favorites.

Emily Rose Mandell, a Classically trained Vocalist brought us her 1st original, an Alternative Pop song titled “Back Home”.

This original song took on many creative colors during production.

We had recently acquired The PERISCOPE Mic by Scope Labs in Finland, just as we were beginning the production of Emily’s song.

After testing our new toy on drums, guitars & Vocals, it wasn’t long before I realized the potential of achieving a truly unique sound for a part in “Back Home”.

So when I recommended we add a vocal solo in the tune, Emily was excited by the idea. She brought her A-Game & nailed it in two takes!!!!!

A BTS note: Everyone was screaming w that WT? just happened factor in our Control Room !!!

From the Voice of a world-class Vocalist, in concert with a Very Dope Mic with many tricks up its sleeve, extraordinary results were achieved !!!

truly delivered. Thx Scope Labs 😎🤘

Please check out the whole song on Emily's YouTube channel, and subscribe …… https://bit.ly/3Ad3Wmk

We used the Telefunken ELA-M 251 to record my vocals on . had an equipment broker friend who had one for rent. We did a blind mic shootout against all the usual suspects and butchvigmusic, John Siket and and listened blindly as I sang into each and everyone hands down chose the ELAM as the This Perfect Vocal Mic. Butch thought it sounded so good he bought the mic. I hope he still has it. 5-MINUTE DRAWING CHALLENGE— Tonight my daughter challenged me to draw a picture that expresses how I’m feeling being in quarantine. Here’s what I came up with! My drawing shows the steps I use to “hazmat”, my family’s code for cleaning off the packages we’ve ordered once they arrive. NOW IT’S YOUR TURN: if you’re feeling inspired, please create some art of your own that represents your current quarantine mood. Remember, it shouldn’t take you any more than 5 minutes! When you’re finished, share your drawings to your story and tag , with the hashtag Good luck! P.S. My drawing skills are very lo-fi, so don’t feel inhibited!

I loved ‘s Nirvana cover set! Great to hear these songs covered by someone with such an amazing voice. “Circles” is my fave new song—a gorgeous melody over simple production, you can’t beat that!
