Prevention:

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol or alcohol-based hand sanitizer

Always wash your hands:
1.After changing diapers.
2.After using the toilet.
3.After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
4.Before and after caring for someone who is sick.

To prevent the spread of HFMD:

1.Wash your hands thoroughly after touching your child's bodily fluids. ...
2.Make sure your child doesn't share items such as cutlery, drinking cups, towels, toothbrushes and clothing.
3.Keep your child home from school, kindergarten or child care until all the fluid in their blisters has dried.

Treatment:

There's no specific treatment for hand-foot-and-mouth disease. Symptoms of hand-foot-and-mouth disease usually clear up in 7 to 10 days.

A topical oral anesthetic may help relieve the pain of mouth sores. Over-the-counter pain medications other than aspirin, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others), may help relieve general discomfort.

Lifestyle and home remedies:

Some foods and beverages may irritate blisters on the tongue or in the mouth or throat. Try these tips to help make blister soreness less painful for your child. These tips may also make it easier to eat and drink.

1.Suck on ice pops or ice chips.
2.Eat ice cream or sherbet.
3.Sip cold drinks, such as water.
4.Sip warm drinks, such as tea.
5.Avoid acidic foods and drinks, such as citrus fruits, fruit drinks and soda.
6.Eat soft foods that don't need much chewing.
7.If your child can rinse without swallowing, swishing with warm salt water may be soothing.
8.Have your child rinse many times a day to ease the pain and inflammation of mouth and throat sores.
