This interesting panel features my agent Sam Hiyate and editor dianeterrana, as well as Marc Côté from Cormorant Books

This review of Messenger 93 in The Miramichi Reader is my dream. Reviewer Gemma Marr looks at the big picture of the story, and also into the nooks of creation and writer/reader questions. Thank you!!
"Messenger 93 is ultimately a novel focused on unpacking assumptions and facing difficulty. It is also about love, mystery, and growth... Centring a cast of well-developed and intricate characters, this intense and haunting novel pulls readers along on a complicated quest, and asks critical questions for readers to return to long after M’s journey comes to an end."

A sad story with a dash of hope. Coles notes: Canadians aren't reading Canadian books anymore. We used to, we want to, we love them when we read them, but digitization has made our books harder and harder to find and elevate, and so to read and buy. Even libraries don't have a system that distinguishes Canadian. Hope is: we're aware of it, and we're demanding a system that will change digital platforms so they identify local books. We're a way off from change and success. But in the meantime: we are aware of it! We can search out Canadian and Canada-based Indigenous authors! Here are a few of my faves: Diane Terrana's The World On Either Side; Joanne Vannicola's All We Knew But Couldn't Say; Waubgeshig Rice's Moon of the Crusted Snow; Alicia Elliott's A Mind Spread Out on the Ground; Tanya Tagaq's Split Tooth; Joshua Whitehead's Jonny Appleseed, Esi Edugyan's Washington Black. And if you haven't read The Darkhouse, that's still in libraries and available online (pretty cheap now too!). And, yes, Messenger 93 is coming out in Spring 2020. Yeah, okay... that should keep you busy for a while!
Why aren't Canadians reading Canadian books? Increasing corporate domination of the publishing world has made it harder for homegrown titles to standout – in stores and online
I can’t wait to share my new YA novel, Messenger 93, with you! Thanks to The Rights Factory and DCB. Countdown begins to Spring 2020.
Nothing says cozy holidays like a dark coming-of-age mystery! If you're looking for a gift or for a treat for yourself on these chilly days, The Darkhouse might be just the read for you!
