We are delighted to announce our debut performance will be at UniBrass 2023, 11th February 2023 at Warwick University, in an exhibition performance before the results are announced. We are looking forward to the support of everyone there. Please put this date in your diary.

Following the success of our first youth brass course back in July, we are pleased to announce the details of our next course, which will take place at Warwick Corps Of Drums on Sunday 27th November 2022. As before, this will be an exciting day of music making followed by an informal concert at the end of the day. We are delighted that Simon Hogg has decided to continue as Musical Director. We are pleased to introduce Simon Hogg who will be our musical director for the first Warwickshire and Coventry Youth Brass Course
Simon commenced his musical career having trombone lessons with his uncle and later joined his father in the Coventry Salvation Army Band. He graduated to the National Youth Orchestra and the Royal Academy of Music, London where he won many major wind and brass prizes.
A graduate of the National Youth Orchestra and the Royal Academy of Music Simon became a founder member of The Fine Arts Brass in 1980. During this time, he performed two thousand concerts, visited over sixty countries, recorded 150 BBC radio and TV broadcasts and made 25 commercial recordings.
Other orchestras and ensembles Simon has played with include City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, The English Symphony Orchestra, The Czech National Orchestra, The Zurich Chamber Orchestra, The Turkish National Symphony Orchestra, The Royal Shakespeare Company, The London Trombone Sound, London Trombone Chorale, Nemo Brass, Cambrian Brass.
In 1994 Simon founded Warwick Music, a specialist publisher of brass music and in 1996 Simon was made an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music.
He taught trombone at the Royal College of Music, Junior Department for ten years, adjudicated for the BBC Young Musician of the Year and was Senior External Examiner at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama. In 2014 he was honoured by the British Trombone Association.
Simon Hogg is currently Director of Music (performance) at Warwick School and conducts the University of Warwick Brass Band.

We are pleased that Luke Barker has agreed to be the guest artist for our first youth brass course.
Luke began playing the cornet at the age of 7 in the Shipston Band and worked his way up to the Principal Cornet position, gaining accolades in solo competitions throughout the area and achieving a DipABRSM Cornet performance with a distinction in December 2018. Luke then joined Flowers Band in 2019 and has since made a huge impression on the players, often stepping into the principal chair for concerts. Luke has been a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, reaching the principal cornet position in both the National Children’s Brass Band and the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain. He won the Geneva Heritage Cornet International Slow Melody Competition in 2021 and is now a Geneva Young Ambassador. Luke is at university studying French and Spanish as well as keeping up with music making.

New course to inspire Midlands youth The Warwickshire & Coventry Youth Brass Course will aim to inspire the next generation of young brass band talent.
We are pleased to announce the rescheduling of our first youth brass course which will now take place on Sunday 17th July at Warwick Corps of Drums hq.
Organised by a range of partners including Brass Bands England and several bands from across Warwickshire, the will day provide a great opportunity for young brass players of grade 4 standard and above to work on and perform a range of pieces and work alongside rising star, Luke Barker. Luke has been the principal cornet of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and is assistant principal cornet for Flowers Band. The Musical Director for the course is the acclaimed trombonist, Simon Hogg.
Participation is free!
Timings: Arrival 9:30 (for 10 am start), concert for parents at 4pm, concluding approx. 4:30 pm

In light of the current covid environment we have regretfully made the decision to postpone the first Warwickshire & Coventry Youth Brass Course. We hope to be able to go ahead with our first course before the end of the current school year.
Foden's band have also informed us that they will not be going ahead with their planned concert but hope to work with us at some point in the future.
We will post an update with the new date and plans for the course as soon as they are available.
