Yesterday, we talked more about the concept of a sovereign identity and why it is important in this current digital landscape. We know it is an exciting concept, but you are probably wondering how will people adjust to having digital identities? All newly evolved technologies take time for the masses to truly adopt. If we look at the technology we use today, it was inconceivable for some time that we would need personal computers, but now you can barely spend a day without using or seeing someone use a computer. It has become a part of our day to day life.

Similarly, Metaverse DNA knows that for the average user adjusting to the concept of a digital identity will not be easy at it is difficult to envision your identity being stored on the blockhain. However, it is easier to use the concept of digital avatars, something that most users are familiar with.

From a user perspective, these avatars can be tailored to look like the actual owner of the avatar, but not necessarily. They are merely data repositories that interact in the digital world. Metaverse created the ‘Metaverse Avatar’ to illustrate how online identities would function. The Metaverse Avatar could contain digital identities which would enable access to blockchain services and assets. The concept of identity on the Metaverse DNA blockchain can represent a person, a machine in an IoT system or even a corporate entity, the meaning is flexible.

You may ask, why is it necessary to link the information that is recorded on the blockchain with an entity or person, whatsoever? Well, the truth is that most companies need data about their users and customers, not only to tailor their products and services better, but to also comply with regulations. For many companies, they need to provide proof that they are following regulations and storing data in a way that is compliant. They may need to share some information while keeping others private, this is what Metaverse DNA can provide them with.

Metaverse Avatar can protect individual data through zero-knowledge proofs and encryption which would allow the avatar to reveal required information without sharing unauthorized data.

In our last post, we briefly discussed the current digital landscape and the lack of power and ownership users have to share and control their own personal data. This led us into the concept of the sovereign identity which we will talk about today.

A sovereign identity as we explained is one that you can fully control and share as you please. As we have seen with how powerful social media companies have grown, personal data is highly profitable. They are profitable for the companies, but not the users.

Though there are laws in the EU through GDPR, there are many jurisdictions around the world where internet conglomerates are violating the rights of users without impunity. There aren’t universal solutions to protect digital identities, which leaves users at the mercy of advertisers and corporations looking to take advantage of a virtually unregulated space.

A digital identity that is sovereign and placed on the blockchain cannot be forged, because it would not be validated by a network participant and thus not be verified on the blockchain. An example of this is if someone wanted to share any personal data of someone they would need the owner of that identity to sign the transaction to demonstrate acceptance of the terms of sharing the data.

The Metaverse DNA team has worked hard to develop a technology that can provide better infrastructure and tackle the challenges that exist today in identity management systems. In addition, we are committed to protecting users by giving them control of their own data.

What is digital identity? In an article by Techcrunch where the author discusses whether or not users own their digital identities or not (the answer is of course, no). Christopher Haernes defines digital identity as more than login credentials, it extends beyond this to every search you’ve made online, including social media posts that connect to create the digital version of you.

Think about posts you’ve made five years ago, any platform you used five years ago whether private or public – the data exists. Those data points have allowed for social media platforms to use your data for their own profit. We’ve seen public scandals such as the Facebook and Cambridge Analytica scandal in 2018 shed light on how internet conglomerates have profited from selling private user information.

Have you ever wondered why that item you were searching for is now suddenly on your page as an advertisement? This is because that information is not private, this is a reality present-day users must face that in exchange for using the platform to communicate with their friends and family, they are releasing their personal information in return.

With blockchain technology, the concept of a ‘sovereign identity,’ is possible. This is a digital identity that is fully owned by the user and they determine whether it can be shared or not, in addition to benefiting financially from their data being used. In this context, Metaverse DNA has created a technology stack that could allow a social media platform to develop where you can own and control the sharing of personal information.

Who gets to own your digital identity? – TechCrunch Even though anonymity is still a hot topic and sought after in the online world, times have changed.

Our world is filled with passwords and other information required to unlock access to certain portals of information whether it is a banking system or your email. These were created in an effort to encrypt the personal data they protect, but hackers can bypass this encryption.

Some companies have seen this as an opportunity to provide ways for users to remember their passwords and manage their online “identities,” but they too have their own security loopholes that caused breaches.

Can you remember a time you forgot a password and how difficult it was to reset it? There have been countless research studies done on how much difficulty users find to remember all of their passwords.

What if we all had a digital identity that would allow us to gain access to all of the platforms we use online? This is the future of identity management that the Metaverse DNA founding team envisions.
