Did you solve yesterday’s Pirate Riddle? The answer is...trains!

The number of wheels on a train varies greatly, but most modern locomotives might have anywhere from four to six pairs of wheels, and the train cars usually have eight wheels each. While passenger trains might pull cars in the forties or fifties at the longest, freight trains might pull even more cars, often in the hundreds. In fact, the longest (and heaviest) train in the world ran on the Mount Newman railway in Australia in 2001, pulling 682 train cars full of iron ore!
However, there is also a type of train that doesn’t need wheels at all, called a maglev train. The word “maglev” is short for “magnetic levitation.” Maglev trains use one set of magnets to hover just above their tracks, and another set of magnets to propel them at high speeds, usually without any wheels!

Earthworms spend lots of their time burrowing through soil, but they’ll often come up above the surface after a rainstorm. Worms need to stay nice and damp to survive, so the worms might do this to get around more easily while it’s not too hot and dry for them to stay aboveground. When earthworms burrow, they mix air into the soil, which is helpful for the plants growing around them. Earthworms also bring nutrients up towards the soil’s surface when they digest their food! Because of this, farmers and gardeners can appreciate having earthworms around.

Did you solve yesterday’s Pirate Riddle? The answer is…the Earth!

The planet Earth has a hard outer layer which we live upon, and this layer is called the crust. The Earth’s crust ranges from around 3 to 30 miles thick, reaching its thickest on dry land—but that’s still thin compared to the Earth’s other layers! Parker the Pierate wouldn’t find any pie filling beneath that crust; below it is a deeper layer of rock called the mantle, followed by the Earth’s outer core and inner core, made of molten metal and solid metal respectively.
