Nestled in a lush garden haven between the Bukansan mountain range and Seoul’s glassy skyscrapers, the Joseon-dynasty Gyeongbokgung Palace was once comprised of more than 500 buildings. "Eid al Adha is all about the spirit of sacrifice," writes Your Shot photographer Neelima Azad. "Sacrificial meat, according to the Islamic law, has to be divided into three parts: One-third of the share is given to the poor, another third is given to relatives, friends and neighbors, and the remaining third is retained by the family. These poor goats unaware of the fate are being unloaded from the truck towards the market place for auction and sale and then later taken to the abattoir for slaughter."

The snow made me treat myself to some side streets while looking for photo opportunities on my way to work, this bitterly cold morning in Baku. The rapidly changing capital of Azerbaijan always has something in store. Just outside the centuries-old Taza Bazaar, I came across the unlikely sight of an old Soviet-era Volga brimming with golden winter apples. The strange beauty of the scene brought back childhood memories of apples carefully picked and stored in the basement of our home in Norway, and the apples turning sweeter as the months of winter went by. —Erik Andre Juriks

Like ruffled sheets of white sand, the rolling Lençóis Maranhenses dunes stretch as far as the eye can see. Between the months of January to June, heavy rains and impermeable bedrock conspire to break up the monotony, trapping sparkling blue-green pools between the mounds, and reviving dormant resident wolffish. The desolate landscape in northern Maranhão state sits just inland from the Atlantic and was protected as a national park in 1981.

Annabelle certainly isn’t the first villain to prove that dolls are horrible and should never be allowed in the hands of human children, but she does hold the distinct honor of being based on an IRL doll believed to be responsible for the death of at least one person. Having met that doll, I can confirm that she is just as scary in real life as she is onscreen, if not more so.
