This Life Without Limits

It is my mission here to discuss all manner of ways we can bring meaningful changes to our lives in

01/11/2023

On today’s episode I’m joined by writer, author, podcaster, amateur mountaineer, cycling enthusiast and food culture chronicler, Derek Beres.

Derek is the co-author of Conspirituality: How New Age Conspiracy Theories Became a Health Threat, and the co-host of the Conspirituality Podcast. Derek and his colleagues began exploring the topic of the rise of conspiracy theories being propagated in the yoga and wellness communities right around the time that the COVID-19 pandemic began to take hold around the world. And their work serves as a cautionary tale for those who may be seeking support in communities and alternative health modalities that may not always be what they seem.

Derek’s experience as a long time yoga instructor and his colleagues’ survival of different cult communities give them a unique insider perspective on how the anti-vax movement and QAnon were able to build a groundswell of momentum and support within the alternative health and wellness world. And they shine a light on some of the main personalities pushing confusing or downright false information out to a vulnerable population.

Personally, I became interested in their work due to my own desire to expand my knowledge of the subject matter and to hold myself to a high standard of integrity and intellectual rigor in my own work related to transformational embodiment and leadership coaching. I also just really love feeling like I’m sitting in on an advanced behavioral psychology class when I read or listen to these guys.

Embodied Vision 2024 - Weston McWhorter 01/11/2023

One of the most powerful tools you have at your disposal is your ability to cast a vision for a life of depth, meaning and purpose. Vision casting can have a profoundly positive impact on the quality of your life when done thoughtfully and intentionally.

When you take the extra step – and deeply EMBODY your vision – well, this is when life gets truly magical!

Sometimes it’s challenging to figure out where you want to go, much less how you’re going to get there. It’s easy to procrastinate the difficult work of self-reflection, introspection, self-inquiry and shadow work – especially when you’re alone with limited support and resources.

I have found that the balance of intentional, reflective solitude paired with feedback and consultation from conscious community has catalyzed my growth. It is that insight which has moved me to design and extend this offering.

I would like to invite you to join me for Embodied Vision 2024! This is a 6-week experience that follows the exact process and methodology I’ve used over the last several years to create clarity and focus in my life. I’ve created this container from a special place in my heart; not only to share what’s personally worked (and continues to work) for me, but to do so in community to encourage sharing of knowledge, resources, accountability and much more!

My desire is to illuminate a path towards your highest vision and embodied Self. If this inspires you, check out the link below. That will take you to a landing page on my website with all the info you need to register. You can also cruise around, get to know me a little better and maybe check out a few episodes of my podcast, This Life Without Limits.

Join me for Embodied Vision 2024 and let’s create a more conscious, embodied and clarified vision together!

Here’s to a life without limits, my friends!

On today’s episode I’m joined by investor, entrepreneur, event promoter, community creator, spiritual seeker and overall rad dad, Chris Schultz!

Chris and I met in New Orleans while we were both deeply integrated in the post-Hurricane Katrina entrepreneurial wave. Chris’ start-up incubator, LaunchPad, helped several early-stage businesses come to market by providing capital, mentorship and networking opportunities for growth to founders of all types. He also played a pivotal role in the Collision Conference, TribeCon, LaunchFest and many other events at the intersection of technology, community and entertainment.

Now making his home in Northern California, Chris and his wife, Anne, have launched a nascent music festival called Cosmico Fest – which has one event in Todos Santos, Mexico and the other in Healdsburg, CA – with the stated mission of building community and love through incredible musical experiences. You may say that “creating community” is in Chris’ blood, and you’d be right. It’s one of the things I like most about this guy.

On today’s episode I get the chance to drop in with an old friend from the advertising world and cycling industry.

Evan Fry and I met during the 2014 US National Cyclocross Championships in Boulder, Colorado. I was there promoting my cycling brand, Rouler, and Evan was enjoying a week of racing, industry parties and supporting all his homies. We bumped into each other on top of a hill at Valmont Bike Park where I was dressed up as a crazed rooster heckling riders as they tried to navigate a steep and slippery downhill off-camber portion of the course, and I think he was just stoked to see some weirdo having as much fun as he was having! (swipe right to see the moment captured by Meg McMahon)

Our conversation touches on the span of Evan’s career in the commercial creative industry and his particular affinity for leading and mentoring young creatives which ultimately led him to his most recent venture, Ideas For Animals, which marries his passion for serving up big ideas with his equally big heart and mission in the world to cultivate a judgment-free life of radical creativity.

Evan’s one of those people who I have admired and been inspired by since we first met in the midst of mud, blood, beers and bike racing. And it’s a real honor to call this guy a friend.

PRODUCTION NOTE: In the intros for both the audio and video versions of this episode, I mention “2013” as the year CX Nats was held in Boulder. It was, in fact, 2014. So apologies to both Boulder and Madison, Wisconsin for the mix up. 🤦🏼‍♂️

On today’s episode I’m so excited to introduce you to my good friend, Robbi Geane King. Robbi and I had the opportunity to connect recently and discuss a whole spectrum of strategies for overcoming trauma – both healthy and otherwise.

Robbi’s journey has been arduous at times, but ultimately she’s arrived at a place that is grounded, purpose-driven and rooted in service – largely due to the mindfulness and contemplative practices she’s devoted herself to.

Robbi is the mother of two beautiful boys, a plant-based chef, wellness coach, writer, mental health advocate and a trauma release breath work facilitator.

Her’s is a story as much about resilience as it is about listening to the voice of your heart.

On today’s episode I’m so excited to introduce you to a man who has used his own personal transformation journey as a source of inspiration for the growth and development of others – specifically his family, community members and other stakeholders. Neel Sus is the CEO and CPO (that’s Chief People Development Officer) at Susco Solutions in New Orleans, Louisiana. Susco was founded in the wake of Hurricane Katrina when Neel discovered he could leverage his passion for software engineering to solve sticky operational challenges faced by some of the biggest industrial enterprises in the Gulf South.

Neel’s personal transformation has been inspiring to witness over the last several years. His focus on holistic well-being has helped him achieve a greater sense of spiritual, mental, emotional, physical, relational and professional alignment in his life. And that alignment supports the positive impact he has on the New Orleans community in the form of active mentorship of young people, other entrepreneurs, students, business associates, his Susco teammates and so many more.

This was a fun opportunity to drop in with a friend who I’ve admired and been inspired by for a long time.

On today’s episode I’m joined by a man who has discovered his true purpose in life by facing the trauma he experienced as a child head-on. It’s true that the greatest gifts we have to offer the world are often hidden behind a veil of the mental, emotional and psychological pain we carry throughout our lives. Often this pain originates in our youngest years and causes us to adopt behaviors and make choices that are way out of alignment with our true nature.

Sadly, Jake Kauffman's story is all too familiar as so many of us carry the weight of emotional neglect and physical or sexual abuse around and we develop stories and beliefs about ourselves in order to ensure that we never have to experience that again. These stories and beliefs serve to cut us off from our hearts, our friends and families, the world and often lead to feelings of isolation, anger, depression and much more.

In his new book, “Let Love In: The Pain Stops When The Truth Starts”, Jake recounts the details of his incredibly painful childhood ordeal and how he chose to confront that experience in order to heal and offer himself deep love and compassion - the net result of which is him being able to trust and receive the love of others. What you’ll learn through this conversation is that when you make a conscious choice to work with your pain and trauma, the healing process is not only liberating but can provide a catalyst for creating a life beyond your wildest dreams.

As heartbreaking as Jake’s story is, it’s also powerfully inspiring. It’s one that I know will resonate with many of you.

On today’s episode we’re going to get into the complexity of what it means to be a leader - especially when faced with difficult challenges that require deep reflection, realignment and commitment to purpose.

Joe Paterno refuted Thomas Carlyle’s assertion that “leaders are born, not made”, by suggesting that the only true path to leadership is forged in times of difficulty and challenge. Ryan Michler is a man who knows this all too well. Ryan is a combat veteran of the Iraq War, a father to 4 beautiful children and the founder of Order of Man and the Iron Council. He’s also the author of “Sovereignty: The Battle For The Hearts And Minds Of Men” and more recently, “The Masculinity Manifesto: How A Man Establishes Influence, Credibility & Authority”. Ryan has literally built his career and reputation on leading men toward lives of integrity and purpose, and yet, he is most certainly human.

This conversation takes place at a time in his life when he’s navigating some really difficult and painful personal experiences that have, in a lot of ways, challenged how he’s shown up in the world. Those experiences have afforded him the opportunity to reflect on ways he can shore up his own vulnerabilities in life and to continue to learn and improve as a father, community member and leader.

Leadership is a choice. And choosing to be a leader is a difficult and complex undertaking on a good day. But when everything in your world gets turned upside down, meeting those circumstances with humility, clarity of purpose and equanimity can mean the difference between losing everything or emerging from a more grounded, credible and influential place.

I recently had the pleasure of sitting down and chatting with one of my favorite new friends, Andrew Schultz.

Andrew is an international speaker, facilitator, coach, podcaster, and mentor. His work has served to catalyze transformation in the lives of thousands of people from all walks of life who are magnetized to his positive energy, vulnerability, and ability to create meaningful connection.

In this episode we get into the power of a good walk-up song, the turbulence being experienced in some areas of the manosphere right now, and most importantly, we discuss some strategies for turning your mess into your message.

“The lowest velocity which a body must have in order to escape the gravitational attraction of a particular planet or other object.”

~ ~ ~

It is with a great deal of humility and excitement that I am announcing the launch of my new 12-week life transformation workshop. Escape Velocity was created to help provide the necessary tools and critical support necessary to help you create durable and lasting change in your life.

I believe the most difficult work we can do in our lives is to liberate ourselves from the gravitational pull of circumstances and choices we make that add to the spiritual, psychological, physical and social weight that keeps us from orbiting in a state of weightless freedom and possibility.

This isn’t designed to be a mass men’s movement. But it is SOLELY for men. The Escape Velocity cohorts are designed to be small and tight knit (only 10 men will be selected to participate at a time) in an effort to facilitate the connection and accountability you need to support you in this important work.

Visit http://westonmcwhorter.com/escape-velocity today and get yourself on the waiting list. This will guarantee you a seat for the forthcoming informational webinar I’ll be holding the week of August 31, 2020.

The fall 2020 cohort launches September 28, 2020.

The two words I would use to describe my friend, Robért Leblanc, are gracious and grateful. Gracious, in the sense that he strives to give everyone in his life – family, friends and team members – his presence and attention, and grateful in the sense of honoring the special and important moments in his life that shape how he shows up in the world as a man, husband, father, friend and community leader.

Robért and his team at Leblanc+Smith have built a reputation of consistently developing warm and inviting experiences for visitors to New Orleans and locals alike. The Leblanc+Smith portfolio includes Sylvain, Meauxbar, Cavan, Longway Tavern, Barrel Proof and in August 2020, The Chloe. Each venue is chosen for the history and story behind the building or space as well as how that space will shape and influence the experience of the patrons who enjoy some of the best food, drink and ambiance the city of New Orleans has to offer.
