Montessori Guide
AMI Montessori globe trotters inspiring guides with ideas and materials!
It’s easy to get caught up in thinking we need fancy tools to teach, but sometimes, all we need is to look a little closer at the world around us. Children naturally see the beauty in the simplest things—like a patch of mushrooms growing in the grass!
The world is already full of wonder; it’s about embracing what’s right there in front of us. With curiosity and a spirit of exploration, we can show children the magic in every leaf, every stone, and every tiny mushroom. Nature provides endless learning opportunities.
Sometimes the best professional development is just reminding ourselves of our own beliefs and values. This one ppt slide brought me back to the roots. Thank you to the speakers for the reminders before we jump back into our work with the children.
Children come up with the most interesting ways to challenge themselves! 🌎 tell us how your children challenge themselves in the comments👇
Best way to show long division for the first time… with bows! 🎀 1476➗12= See if you can work it out this way.
🌺🌷Spring is here!🌼💐
We’re adding a touch of springtime to our activities. Here we have some gardening items in our article game. They were a huge hit!
🍁The children seem to be enjoying the autumnal makeover of our Montessori language activities! Featured is the fall version of the Conjunction game and the Adjective game. Fall vibes, cozy learning. 🍁🧡

📝✨ A heartwarming surprise in the form of a letter from my 5-year-old student today! 💕 Their beautiful handwriting and genuine love for our Montessori classroom made my day. 🏫❤️
My favorite beachy creation …a new spin on the adjective game!
🚜📚 Farm material for teaching adjectives? We've plowed through that field and found a fresher path! 🌱🌟 In our children’s house, we believe in keeping learning exciting and engaging. That's why we bid farewell to the same old farm theme and welcome change every 6 weeks! 🌈✨ Adjectives flourish in diverse settings – from the depths of the ocean 🌊 to the mysteries of outer space 🚀. By changing our theme regularly, we cultivate curiosity and make every adjective lesson a thrilling adventure! 📖🐮
🎉✨ Happy Birthday, Maria Montessori! 📚🎂 Your groundbreaking contributions to education have forever transformed the way we nurture young minds. Through your innovative methods, you've taught us to see the world from a child's perspective and embrace their natural curiosity. Your legacy continues to empower educators and parents to create nurturing environments where children can thrive and discover their potential. Thank you for showing us the power of hands-on learning and the importance of fostering independence. 🙌 Let's celebrate the legacy of Maria Montessori today and every day!🥂📖 -CenteredLearning
As social animals, we naturally adjust our behavior to belong to a community. Much of what we do in a Montessori environment is to build the implicit love, care, consideration, and social dynamics of the community. Each child in turn is then pulled and driven to belong to that community.
We first turn to the environment to give cues to the children about how this community functions. By designing beautiful, functional, and fragile materials for them to freely explore with, we are giving them cues as to the value of the materials. These are something special that should be used and loved!
Slowly you see the older children taking on the responsibility of guardians of the space and the community in it. They begin to embody the care and love that surrounds them.
Oral language is crucial to a child’s literacy development, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
Children are like little sponges, they soak in everything! That’s why it’s so important to surround them with a rich language environment in which they can learn to communicate their thoughts, feelings, and ideas with others.

What does a bespoke education system look like and how does it function in real life?
The answer is observation, observation, observation.
Teaching someone the wrong thing at the wrong time is like beating your head against the wall. If you know how to incorporate an individual’s unique interests and learning styles into lessons styled directly for them, your setting yourself, and ultimately them, up for successful learning.
What is it about the painting activity that child has chosen to do 100 times over the past month that’s attracting them? Maybe it’s the color, maybe it’s the artistic flair. How can we capitalize on those components and incorporate them into, say, learning letters?
Some children are more successful with challenging activities in the end of the morning, while some children dive into challenge first thing. Some children need more explanation, while some children need you to show a concept one time.
If we capture these key pieces of information, then we’re going to be able to unlock the true potential of each individual child!
Making tens with the number rods
Playing lots of games and doing lots of practice with the numbers to ten sets the foundation for the rest of a child’s math journey. Having fluency and confidence with the basics of our base ten number system sets them up for success!
Here is an early addition exploration where the child discovers all the combinations to make tens. They can then make 9s 8s 7s etc.
Here’s to all the moms out there. We see you doing the hardest job and killin’ it 👀

I think every guide has those go-to practical life activities that are a sure fire way to engage concentration in even the most rambunctious kiddos. For me, these include polishing and scrubbing. The results of their work are so clear and the logical steps draw them in!
Next time you’ve got a little rowdy one wandering through the room, try taking out a polishing activity and presenting it sloooowwlllyyy and see their concentration click on!
