** NO CLASS TOMORROW ** Friends, there will be no Science Baby tomorrow (Friday) at Washington Irving. I need to look after my sick kiddo. I’m sure I’ll be back at Washington Irving some time in the new year but that’s a wrap for this round. It was such a treat to explore with you all. Thank you to the Washington Irving team for all their support. I’ll post highlights soon. And thanks for the pic ❤️

☀️This Friday Science Baby is back at Washington Irving library for 4 sessions: 12/1, 12/8, 12/15 & 12/22!
At 11am

🌈 Science Baby is creative sensory STEM taught through story, puppets and hands-on play. Big concepts become simple ideas and small words as we explore with our imaginations, minds and bodies. Classes are created with 0-3 yrs in mind.

🎟️ For space and safety reasons we have to cap the number so get a ticket from the lovely Librarians upstairs beforehand.

🔍The sensory bins are always a hit! Come explore with me!

📸This gorgeous photo is by and I’ll share more of our branding shoot soon!

Hi friends, the library is closed for Veteran’s Day. No class at Bushwick Library today. Next and final class of this series is next Friday 17th. 🌈

Friends! Did you know I’m a DOE vendor? I created an in-school curriculum for 3K, Pre-K and Kindergarten similar to Science Baby but catered older kiddos and the classroom environment. It’s called STEM + STORY!

First run of this was at PS 49 in Maspeth in the Spring and was a great success. Shout out to for bringing me in and co-teaching with me. ❤️ All 5 kindergarten classes got 8 weeks of creative STEM programming. That’s about 125 kindergarteners! We explored, experimented, danced and played. We had a ball!

If you think creative STEM programming would be something your school may be interested in, I’d love to chat with you. 🌈

Hello PS 88 parents 🌈 if you want to attend the PTA meeting tonight in-person but you have the kids… I’m doing some STEM kid creating with boxes tonight while the parent meet! 6-6:45pm tonight 😀 📦 ❤️ 10/12 .s.88qpta

DAY 1:
Make something that fits in the palm of your hand, using only the materials you find in your immediate environment.

When I told my eldest that you can sharpen crayons it BLEW HER MIND! So I had these out and about.

What I loved about this was how different this day one feels. I can look back on some really fun day one sprints, but I always overthink them. In the past I’ve been super glued to the idea and it “working out”, and that my friends is not how you sprint. So not this year folks. I’m doing my work, going with my gut and letting things go. After this I sprinkled the shavings on paper and let it become something else, and then something else again. For me, when I get out of my own way this is when I grow. ⭐️

Today is day ONE of the CREATIVE SPRINT!!! 🌈❤️✨

⁉️Wait, what is that Emma? I'm glad you asked friends! The creative sprint is a 30-day creativity challenge that swings around every October. You sign up *link is in my bio* and you'll receive an email with a daily prompt. Like this one from a few years back: Make something using only the contents of your pocket or purse. I made this from pocket stuff after we took Baby Noah to the ER with a 105 fever.

💫Creative Sprint is the brain child of Another Limited Rebellion (Mica & Noah) who remind the world in all they do that Creativity is a Practice. It's free and it's WONDERFUL! For all you suspicious types it's not a competition or pyramid scheme or anything shady. It's just humans around the planet strengthening their creativity for the month of October by doing something, reflecting and sharing it.

💡I've done them for 8 years and each year it gives me something different. I've used Creative Sprints to generate ideas (the idea for Science Baby came from a creative sprint!), to process grief, unpack procrastination and to challenge my perfectionism. I apologize in advance for screaming but this is important... YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE AN ARTIST! Every single one of us is creative, but we gotta practice it if we want it to grow.

Join me! I'll be posting my sprints here because Science Baby wouldn't be here without Creative Sprint.

This Friday 10/6 at 11am Science Baby is back at Bushwick Library! This is the first of a 6-week residency and I cannot wait to transform that marvelous big program room into a wonderland of STEM and play to share with you all. ❤️

🌈If you're new to Science Baby this is how it goes: we gather to welcome, there are songs, a story and a puppet friend introduces the simple vocabulary that you'll hear over and over as we play. Then, after a brief introduction of the play stations, I throw on some music and you explore. There is space on the mat for babies to lay, roll and play and a reading nook for those who may need a quieter area to decompress. We end the class by taking those big concepts that have become simple words and we put them into a movement and dance! In 45 mins we've engaged our brains, our imaginations and our bodies and STEM has gone from being a big 'ol grown up thing to something that we experience at any age. Then you can all go home (and hopefully nap!), leaving with ideas for how to continue the learning on your own.

🎟️This program is free and no registration is required however the lovely librarians will hand out tickets so the space doesn't get too full.

🤧As always, if you're feeling unwell please stay home and rest. Any questions, let me know.

📷😍❤️This beautiful photo was taken by . It's not at Bushwick Library but those are some of my amazing SB Bushwick kiddos. Carey and I did a photo shoot back in May with a bunch of neighbood SB families and the photos are pure magic. Stay tuned for more of those gems. If you've read this far, you deserve a sticker ⭐️

My story “What Can I Bring?” is airing on The Moth Radio Hour this week. The episode is called “You Are Here” hosted by the lovely Chloe Salmon. It’s in a great gang of beautiful stories.

It’s about my dear friend Margie who passed away in 2007. I told this at a story slam a million years ago and telling it in a big room full of people, it felt like she came back for just a moment. So, have a listen… let’s bring her back. I’ve missed her so. Head to the link in bio at or I’ll try to plug it into mine. But 7pm on WNYC tomorrow night.

Pic 1: I found me some Nips, they are still everywhere.

Pic 2: me, (the) Margaret Juntwait and Margie Myers. We met at a Wednesday night Gilda’s club support group. The three of us were bonded immediately. I got to keep Mags for another 8 years, and that’s another story.

Pic 3: Margie’s observations & lessons for the Extraordinary Woman that I wove into her eulogy.

Thank you

I’m looking at my website that desperately needs an update and stuck on this beautiful pic of my mum, Camilla. took this amazing portrait of her and it captures her personality so well. She’s so warm, and engaging. If curiosity and wonder are genetic I definitely got it from her. I’m often sad that we don’t live close but she really is with me daily as I move through the world. I say often “Kids! Look at that!! ” (it’ll be a tree or a rock or a cloud) and they say “you sound like Mimika”. I don’t mind that one bit. Love you Mum ❤️
