The Cape Town Cannon Challenge is a unique mixed terrain route taking in all of the historic cannons around the Cape Peninsula. 16 cannons | 160km | 2750m vert đź’Ą
The badges are ready! There are basically two ways to complete the Cape Town Cannon Challenge.
1. Do it under 24hrs and get your 1 day badge.
2. Break it up into sections, breakfast stops, wine stops and dinner stops and do it over multi days for your, er, multi-day badge.

Note that when you're submitting your time, if you want to get your badge and go onto the results wall, AKA Wall of Honour, it's the Total Elapsed Time that counts and NOT your Moving Time 👀 ⏱️ Especially important when it comes to the FKT.
***
A few notes if you're going for the FKT: The challenge is to tag each cannon on the list. It's basically an honour system, but the challenge is to take your bike to each cannon (there are 2 cannons that you don't have to physically tag) and touch the cannon. You can just tag the nearest cannon :) A segment for the entire Cannon Challenge route has been created on Strava. Go check it out.
Speaking of which, the Cannonball Floating Trophy for the route FKT is up for grabs at the end of June!! This beautifully crafted (somewhat battered) antique piece of cast iron has definitely seen some action (not sure what action, but it has seen some) is looking for a new home. Weighing in at "crazy heavy", it is the perfect addition to your trophy cabinet. Although you will need to structurally reinforce said trophy cabinet. Or perhaps you could take it tenpin bowling.
We're working out how to get the cannonball engraved with the holder's name and time. Somewhat concerning is that certain cannonballs explode and so engravers have been hard to come by 🤷 But we'll figure something out! Also, you may need to sign a waiver that says if you drop it on your foot, that's on you.
If the FKT time is broken, then the cannonball is handed over to the new holder. If that rider lives outside of Cape Town, then the cannonball will be put on display at .
Think that's it! DM us with any other questions!

"The Cape Town Cannon Challenge
The brainchild of my mate Grant Clark, taking riders on a journey all around Cape Town and the peninsula to tag 16 different historical cannons.
I took on the challenge a week after running the 100km, which wasn’t a great idea, but & Gavin were keen for it, so we went.
It’s a big day on the bike, but also a beautiful one. A gravel bike is the perfect bike to do it on. I do suggest starting at East City Cycles] early, taking lots of snacks along, and don’t have any time pressure. The climb up towards the blockhouse at the tail end will bite you. You will see cool parts of the city you’d never been to. You will also be very tired when you are done.
Check out the website, gather a crew, and do it!"

[The FKT] Whoever sets the FKT or Fastest Known Time (this is currently an overall FKT, with no gender category) will receive a very very very very very heavy antique cannonball and will have their name and time engraved on the ball.
It is a floating trophy and when the FKT is beaten, it is handed over to the next person, very very very carefully.
