One of the city council members who voted and faught against the S**U ordinance in was drugged at a bar. And she’s still facing ridicule. This is why we still have work to do.

City Council Representative Arrested for Public Intoxication--Claims She was Illegally Drugged.

Big Spring City Council Representative Camilla Strande was arrested by Big Spring Police Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 4:21a.m. and charged with Public Intoxication.

KBest News spoke with Ms. Strande who said that she believes she had been unwillingly drugged while at a bar in downtown Big Spring last Friday night, November 6th.

Strande said she had a couple of drinks at the Desert Flower Art Bar located at 2nd and Main Street before walking back to her place of business, The Train Car Cigar Bar, at 1st and Main Street. At 2:00 a.m, “My employee and I were locking up The Train Car when we were approached by a man asking for help to find his friend,” Strande said. “We told him that we had not seen her, but he said that his GPS was showing that she was inside The Train Car. So, I unlocked the building to search for the woman’s phone while my employee went on home. No one was inside The Train Car, nor was the woman’s phone, so I came out, locked up again and sat down to talk to the man. I recall feeling strange, then I remember absolutely nothing after that. I have no idea what happened or where I was taken. I was later told that the police were called at 4:00a.m. because I was standing in the middle of Main Street yelling. I have no memory of this whatsoever. I have bruises all over my body. I had to have been drugged.”

Ms. Strande went on to say that she has since filed a report with the Big Spring Police Department stating that she believes she had been illegally drugged on the night of the arrest. Big Spring Police Chief Chad Williams confirmed that a report has been filed by Ms. Strande, and that the incident is now under investigation.

🚨🚨CALL TO ACTION🚨🚨

Today a clinic in Michigan was terrorized by anti-choice zealots. They used their bodies to barricade the entrance, blocking patients and staff from entering or exiting the clinic. This is a clear violation of not only local laws, but also the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, which makes what they did a federal crime.
The situation was made worse by Sterling Heights Police Department officers who arrived and chatted amicably with the antis, trying to encourage them to move in order to avoid repercussions rather than doing their jobs and removing them.

One officer (Mike) buddied up with anti leader, Chet Gallagher, while transporting him to the jail where he was assured he would get a ticket for a small fine and be immediately released. Unbeknownst to this officer, Chet’s phone, which was in the officer’s custody, was livestreaming the entire time.

He told Chet that he sympathized with his cause, as did the other officers there, and that “These people are gonna answer for this one day” in reference to those at the clinic. He expressed his disgust with clinic clients and “liberal legislators.” He also was preoccupied with how Chet was going to portray him on social media, wanting to not be “demonized.”

Officer Mike expressed his disdain for the movement for Black lives and weirdly attempted to relate it to today’s events, saying “My biggest issue with it is they’re allowing these people to protest and burn cities to the ground and nobody cares. And then now they’re so upset when someone comes and protests at their clinic.”

These Sterling Heights Police officers made it clear that they believe that they have to enforce the law only when they agree with it. Please call, tag, and email their department and let them know that their officers’ behavior during this clinic attack was unacceptable and dangerous, and that the officers involved need to be fired.

Tear Gas
:
tear gas is not a gas, it’s a kind of powder that clings to your skin and clothing. it affects your eyes and your respiratory system. tear gas cans have different levels of toxicity, and the ones used against civilians are the lowest, but you should never trust a cop with your safety
:
countries might have different policies about it, but common (rarely followed) protocols include:
:
* tear gas canister must be shot at the air, not directly at civilians:
* police must announce they will gas the place before shooting a can:
lethality:
* people with respiratory problems should be thoroughly careful as death may occur in a matter of hours exposed to it:
* others with no problems might experience fainting:
* have in mind the long lasting effects of this chemical weapon have not been registered yet:
protection
* thick face mask (the type made from a paper-like material) for a short period of exposure or low toxicity:
* proper gas masks with mixed filter against organic vapours and acid gases + particles:
* goggles (like ski masks or to go swimming):
* if the gas mask doesn’t cover your entire face/doesn’t have a proper grip, you need to wear a bandana or a piece of clothing under it:
* do NOT use vinegar:
* do NOT wear makeup, creams or sunscreen as it worsens the effect on your eyes:
treatment & prevention:
* FIRST! Try purified water! effective & cheap: boil a pot of water with laurel leaves (the kind u use to cook) until water turns brown. apply on nose, rinse mouth, pour on closed eyes and blink repeatedly. more effective as preventive measure (soak a piece of clothing and hold it against ur mouth/nose or tie it around your head):
* other: maalox antiacid:
* you can bite on a lemon for the effects to go away, but it would only last once your away from the gas:
* do NOT run or get agitated, walk fast and watch where your going. be calm, be mindful of others suffering the effects of the gas around u. help each other. contain each other:
* sneeze, cough, spit and blink as much as necessary until you’ve recovered
aftercare
* tear gas clings to your skin and your clothes, so try to get the least amount of skin exposed. do NOT touch your face (eyes, mouth, nose) with your hands or your clothes after you’ve been exposed, as the particles of the chemical will once again hurt you:
* you can wash your clothes with baking soda, but the chemical might still remain (so don’t take that forever 21 dress to a protest):
* do NOT shower with hot water, as it re-activates the chemical. you don’t have to use ice cold water but regulate the temperature carefully:
neutralization:
baking soda + water mixture in a big (6lt) reusable water bottle (some people add shampoo). you must wear heavy face protection and wielding gloves to manipulate the tear gas canister, grabbing it quickly from the floor and then cover the bottle as fast as you can once you put the can inside. it takes a few minutes to put off.:
important: keep the canister, don’t throw it away. when you’ve gotten to safety take a picture of the labels and information on the can, as it details the toxicity and precautions. make sure to check the protocols in your country and report any misconduct.:
not recommended: if you do not have the proper equipment to handle a tear gas canister, throw or kick the can against the police who shot it. watch them suffer. absolutely not recommended I do not support this you should never 💋

Mayor Eric Johnson declared May 18 Transgender Visibility day in Dallas. The day was chosen because it is the one-year anniversary of the murder of Muhlaysia Booker.

In addition to the mayor, the proclamation is signed by LGBT council members Adam Medrano, Omar Narvaez and Chad West. they were joined by Councilman Adam Bazaldua.

On Facebook, Omar Narvaez wrote:

"Today is Transgender Day of Visibility. Everyday since I’ve been a member of the Dallas City Council these two trans flags have been displayed right out in front. It’s important to me that everyone knows they are welcome in .

To those of the trans experience, I personally do see you and will continue to be a strong advocate to support you. You are visible in my office today and always.

Special thanks to Mayor Eric Johnson for bringing forward a proclamation (in the photos below) introduced by MPT Adam Medrano. It is rare to be given the opportunity to sign a Mayoral Proclamation and I am thankful to have been added as a member of the LGBTQ community along with my colleagues CMs Chad West and Adam Bazaldua."

We demand justice for 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery who was killed because of the color of his skin while jogging in a Georgia neighborhood. He was murdered by a white father and son who took it upon themselves to end the life of this young black man because of racism and white supremacy. May he Rest In Peace, and may there be justice for him and all of the black lives who were stolen because of this anti-black world.

When these barriers are combined with a pandemic, we fear that even more people who need abortions will not be able to access care at all. Black Women are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related conditions such as cardiac issues and hemorrhage and to bear the brunt of serious complications as well. - Monica R. McLemore
:
Racial disparity is one of the most striking takeaways from examining data on maternal mortality in the U.S. “Although the number of women who die in childbirth globally has fallen in recent decades, the rates in the U.S. have gone up. Since 1987 maternal mortality has doubled in the U.S. Now approximately 800 maternal deaths occur every year. One of the most striking takeaways from examining the data is racial disparity: Black women are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related conditions such as cardiac issues and hemorrhage and to bear the brunt of serious complications as well. That risk is equally shared by all black women regardless of income, education or geographical location. In other words, the factors that typically protect people during pregnancy are not protective for black women.”

Infant mortality rates among African Americans remain twice as high as among whites. African American women with graduate degrees still face a greater risk of delivering pre-term, low birth-weight babies than white women who didn't finish high school. In this medical detective story, researchers are circling in on the added burden of racism through the life-course as a long-term risk factor.
