“I see, so just strange men on mountain trails was a first,” he asked, cocking his head to the side.

“Yes,” I said. “I promise, I’m not someone that does that kind of thing.”

“I know,” he said. “So, you find me attractive, huh?”

I rolled my eyes, “maybe a little.”

“I think that begging you did says more than a little,” he remarked, to which I just turned to walk away.

“Hey, I’m just teasing. It wasn’t something I’ve done before either, but it was amazing,” he said, coming around me to stand and staring me down. “Have dinner with me tonight? Let’s do this right and get acquainted. What do you say?”

Inhaling, I considered, for a moment, “I guess I have to eat.”

“You never give an inch, do you?” He said with a big grin spreading across his face.

“Never,” I replied, starting forward as he fell in step with me, as we headed over to the dining area for what I expected would be a very informative meal together.

The bulge behind the zipper of my jeans got painful, real fast at that request. I knew that I couldn’t do anything with her out here on the trail. It was crazy, as someone might need me. That said, crawling into her sleeping bag and staying close to her would short wire my good intentions.

“I think that is a bad idea,” I said as my voice got low and husky, telling her exactly what I wanted to say to that invite.

“I can be quiet,” she whispered close to me.

I glanced about, trying to detect any movement in the other parts of the camp. Nothing!

When I turned around, she was in the sleeping bag, but her damn jeans were sitting right next to it. I felt my heart start thumping painfully in my chest. I glanced at her with her big round eyes, kicked off my boots, stripped down to my briefs, and climbed into the bag. It was pretty snug, as our legs wrapped around each other.

“I’m sorry I haven’t shaved in a couple of days,” she murmured.

I kissed that remark off her lips, as her legs were not what I was worried about. The moisture soaking through the strip of fabric she called panties had my full attention. I had never made love out on the trail, but being honest – it was one of my top two fantasies. This woman just continued to surprise me in so many ways.

“Sh*t!” I said to no one in particular as I read through the documents in the notification.

“And you know this how,” Bentley asked cocking his head to the side and giving me a knowing smile. “You wouldn’t be using some of those old resources of yours you shouldn’t be to spy on Rachel’s stalker – would you?”

I knew I was caught, but I had talked my way out of worse situations, and I sure hoped this wouldn’t be the exception. I did not need these men, who loved to harass each other mercilessly, knowing how much Rachel meant to me.

“I did look into Ramos Knight, so we knew what we were dealing with,” I said, hoping that would do it. From the looks around the table, I knew it wasn’t going to. When I got to Anders, his left eyebrow was sky-high as I lowered myself into the chair opposite him.

“You slept with her?” Linc suddenly asked, causing my head to snap to him in shock.

“I said no such thing,” I muttered angrily.

“Oh, no, you know that is a no-no,” Easton said. “She is an employee.”

I kept my head down and waited for Sarai to appear this morning. Last night was off the charts, and I hoped that finding her missing when I woke this morning wasn’t a sign that she regretted anything we did. The woman was responsive in a way that ticked all my boxes, and while sleeping with someone that might be crucial to the business seemed like a bad idea on the surface, I honestly believed we could be professional during working hours. Not that I wanted to have to ever explain to Anders, Linc, Easton, or Xander what the hell I was thinking.

The trouble was I knew damn well I wasn’t using my big brain when I dragged her into that room last night. When I took one of the empty rooms up at the lodge to escape the escalating heat in my house, I didn’t expect to run into her. Sure, I had some worries about Lanie, Tessa, and Sarai going into town, as the guys in these parts could be a bit rough around the edges. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I’d be the one to take her to bed before the night was over.

I stopped my stupid overthinking when I saw her walking up to me. Her face turned a deep crimson as she kept her eyes averted and bobbed her head to the far corner of the greenhouse where no one could hear us.

“Morning,” I said with a grin on my face.

“Morning,” she mumbled, keeping her head downturned. “Listen, can we never speak of what happened last night? It was unprofessional and not anything I would normally do while on assignment for our family firm.”

“Understand,” I said but couldn’t stop reaching out to hook a finger under her chin and drag it upward. “It was good, though, wasn’t it? I think we should call a truce on all the bickering. What do you say?”

“I don’t think you are capable of that,” she bit out harshly.

“There she is, the little spitfire I adore,” I said as we both froze at the use of that word.

“Not a word,” she admonished.

“Fine,” I said, silently hoping we might find ourselves in another such situation before she left. I had thought a good night of cardiovascular activities between the sheets would rid me of this ridiculous infatuation, but it turned out it might actually be worse. I just wanted to see that sweet smile and, truth be told, get to work with her.

“Damn it,” Richard growled, glancing at the men by the barn. “Who called him?” I glanced at the men who were all averting their gaze and then to the man that had just literally ridden up on a horse and dismounted.
