Having fun making a little custom wrapping paper for a dear customer. Unravel is all about exploring ourselves, the world, and each other. It’s about getting to the root and heart of why we do what we do. For me, a big theme has been liberation. This year I’m giving myself permission to show up more authentically in the hope that it invites others to do the same. It’s been a journey for me and I’m moving forward one step at a time by releasing my work out into the world without worrying about it being “perfect”. Sending love to you all this holiday season. May you create space for peace, ease, and play.

Happy October everyone! Thought I’d make a fun little meme since it’s 😂. But really, all soap makers know the feeling when your soap batter goes from 0 to 60 in .3 seconds and you have to come up with a new design on the fly. I’m almost set up to start making soap again so stay tuned!

Do you see the magic in each moment?

Grant yourself the gift of slowing down.

Regardless of how our days are going or how we’re feeling, it’s still there and that can give us hope and comfort during difficult times. Be gentle with yourself as you open your heart to find it.

I’m not as calm as I look in this video. I was cranky and impatient because things are taking longer than I would like. But I also know it’s only my perception and I have the power to change it. You are witnessing me desperately trying to take my power back and transform icky feelings into something better. It’s taken me a long time to learn how to regulate my nervous system after coping with but it’s good to celebrate progress. Just wanted to share this for anyone who is struggling today. I see you and I’m sending you love and compassion.

To me, this song is about finding contentment and magic right where you are. You have all the tools. You got this. I’m with you.

Love,
Tamara

Hey lovelies! Before you transition to those fall looks, remember to check the expiration date of your makeup and wash your brushes! I know it’s sad to see so much product go, especially if you rarely wear makeup. But expired makeup harbors harmful bacteria that can cause skin and eye infections. Have you every had puffy or red eyes or experienced a burning sensation after using makeup? Expired products and dirty application tools could be the culprit.

Keep your skin healthy by only using makeup within its expiration date. There is usually a jar with a number and letter inside it somewhere on the packaging, indicating the product’s shelf life (example: 12M for twelve months).

Here are some general guidelines on how long makeup lasts:

Foundation, concealer, and liquid products - 6 to 12 months

Blush and powder - about 2 years

Cream blush and multi-use sticks - 12 to 18 months

Lipstick, pencils, liner, and lip gloss - 12 months

Mascara - 3 months

Eye shadow - 6 months

Gel eye liner - 2 months

There are several ways to reduce waste in your makeup routine and also save money. Ask for samples if you’re trying a new product you’re not sure about. Many beauty stores will gladly offer you free samples. Before purchasing a product, ask yourself if you really need it. Makeup has not changed that much over the years. Try not to fall prey to seductive marketing. Store brands can work just as well as brand name makeup, especially for things like mascara that have a shorter shelf life. If you wish, you can splurge on the products that have a longer shelf life like foundation. Try using products that work in multiple areas of the face. Look for smaller travel sizes. You may find that you can barely finish them before the recommended expiration date. Write the date you purchased your makeup on the bottom of the container with a fine tip permanent marker.

When you’re ready to toss your old makeup, be sure to clean and recycle the containers.

I had a conversation with my granddad this morning and he said something to this effect. “There is no substitute for your own freedom.” He has spent his whole life liberating himself and his family. His story is quite magnificent. I’m so grateful for his wisdom.

If you’ve noticed I’ve been missing in action lately, it’s because I’ve spent the past few months relocating to Portland, Oregon. It’s bittersweet but like my granddad says, there’s no substitute for liberation and that’s what we’ve been up to. We are freeing ourselves to pursue our dreams. We are reinventing and recreating our lives. We are taking time to pause, reflect, and get organized. Thank you for being patient with us. It was a tough decision to leave Hawaii but we are already seeing the benefits. There’s so much to love about where we are now and I’m looking forward to sharing that with you soon. I’m excited to get back to making beautiful soaps for you soon.

Take care.

Love,
Tamara

As promised, here’s a rough cut of the Salar de Uyuni goat’s milk soap featuring salt crystals all the way from the world’s largest salt flat in Bolivia.

This soap smells amazingly fresh. It has notes of bergamot, orange, sparkling cassis, deep sea water, hyacinth, blue lilies, lemon zest, patchouli, and seaweed.

After they get cleaned up, these soaps will be cured for 6 weeks. Hope you all are having a wonderful day!

Been testing shampoo bars and this is the best one yet! Friends have been telling me one of the issues they have with shampoo bars is that they take a little longer to lather and they miss the foaming action seen in liquid shampoo. I hope to address this issue with my shampoo bars. This bar lathers very nicely and has a rich, creamy consistency. It has tea tree and peppermint essential oils to keep your strands smelling fresh. ☺️

Hi lovelies! We’ve got a new soap in the mold! This one is Salar de Uyuni goat’s milk soap.

My husband is from Bolivia and on his last trip there he got to visit the world’s largest salt flat in the Andes mountains, which sits at nearly 12 thousand ft above sea level. 😳 He brought back some salt and I just had to make soap with it.

This soap is inspired by the way the salt crystals form a pattern when the water evaporates. It is scented with midnight waters from . Can’t wait for you to see the cut!

In case you stay up late at night wondering how the garden is doing (not me), my husband has been taking excellent care of the plants while I’ve been away (thanks honey!). The pineapples waited until I left to show off 😆. All of them are fruiting and so is the lime tree. The papaya tree is great and the green onions have been responding well to the plant food.

Gentle reminder to feed and water yourself! You are precious and worthy of care and love. Hope this brings some positivity to your timeline. ❤️

Aloha,
Tamara

Hello lovelies! Sorry for being MIA lately. After hearing that my granddad was sick, I decided to take some time away and go visit him in Dominica for a few months. This has been a great opportunity to hear about his life, spend time with family, connect with my roots, and take care of my mental health. Although I miss making soap for you all, I also recognize the importance of pausing and reflecting. I’ve been learning about a lot of awesome natural remedies from my grandparents and I can’t wait to share them with you! Looking forward to coming back refreshed and inspired. Thank you for your patience and for your support.

Love,
Tamara
