In view of increasing positive cases of covid 19 that we are seeing locally within Tier 3 areas we have had to make changes to our visiting offer. This is to ensure that we continue to keep pregnant people, families and staff safe and reduced the risk of transmission.

We will in this difficult time continue to try to ensure that our services are supportive and caring whilst responding to regional and local directives and infection rates.

The changes that we have made relate specifically to care during IOL and include overnight stays on our maternity wards.

In relation to induction your named birth partner will be able to come in with you for the induction process to support and visit between the hours of 10am and 6pm.

In relation to questions about how labour is defined; We do not intend to give a definitive diagnosis of labour based on dilation alone.
One of the ways to confirm labour Is established is to assess the length strength and frequency of contractions. For example this may be when your contractions are regular, lasting about 60-90 seconds and have grown stronger in intensity. A vaginal examination is not the only way to confirm labour and it is your choice to accept or decline any examination We will always take into account the whole picture and your individual needs and circumstances.

We continue to support the offer of 2 birth partners during labour when care is provided in either the delivery suite or birth centre. This can be your named partner and a second support person. They will be able to remain with you until transfer to the postnatal ward or the postnatal stay area on the birth centre.

Attached is a letter clarifying our offer through each stage. As always we will continue to review our visiting offer and walk beside you every step of the way.

Thank you for your continued support.

& Whooping cough vaccinations not only give you immunity to the viruses, they also pass on vital antibodies through the placenta to give immunity to your baby too.

When your baby is born, they have no immunity to the flu or whooping cough virus, meaning that if they come into contact with the virus, they can become very poorly, very quickly.

Whooping cough continues to cause fatalities every year, particularly in children under the age of 3 months. As babies do not have their own immunisations until they are 8 weeks old, their developing immune system struggles to cope.
By receiving your vaccinations in , you are passing on vital antibodies to help protect your baby from these viruses, until they are old enough to have their own vaccinations.

women who get the flu are at a higher risk of becoming more severely unwell and requiring hospitalisation. This then puts your developing baby at risk and can cause premature birth and growth restriction.

Our vaccination service is open Monday- Friday 08:30-16:30. No appointment needed.

for baby focuses on six easy to follow steps which you can follow any time you put your baby down to sleep.

STEP 1:
Keep baby away from smoke, before and after birth. If either you or your partner smokes, never share a bed with your baby

STEP 2:
Put baby in a cot, crib or Moses basket to sleep. Never fall asleep with baby on a sofa or chair; this can increase the risk of death by 50%.

STEP 3:
Never fall asleep with baby after drinking alcohol or taking drugs, including medications that may make you drowsy.

STEP 4:
Put baby to sleep on their back with their feet to the foot of the cot.

STEP 5:
Keep baby's head and face uncovered and make sure they don't get too hot. The room they sleep in should be between 16-20 degrees celsius

STEP 6:
Breastfeed your baby. Support is available if you need it.

Getting ready to have a baby is a very exciting time. But making plans for this huge change in your life can be overwhelming too.

In the lead up to we want to share some stress relieving tips and facts over the next few days to help support you through pregnancy and parenthood.

Mindfulness
Do you ever find yourself caught up in your thoughts and worries? Or maybe you’re just going through the motions of the day and have forgotten to enjoy the little things around you? Stop for a second and focus on your feelings, body sensations and the world around you.
Mindfulness is about knowing directly what is going on inside and outside yourself, moment by moment. It can help you live in the present moment and block out worries (like the endless ‘To Do’ list in your head). In pregnancy, it can also help you bond and connect with your unborn baby.

Try something new today…
Beditation!

Relaxation can help release tension in your body, calm your mind and improve your mental wellbeing.

Take 30 minutes for yourself this evening and try some meditation from the comfort of your home. Turn off your phone, sink into a comfy spot and enjoy some peace from this crazy world with just you and your baby.

Breathe... Relax… Take some time out. You deserve it.
