Carrier oil, also known as base oil or vegetable oil, is used to dilute essential oils and absolutes before they are applied to the skin in massage and aromatherapy. They are so named because they carry the essential oil onto the skin. Diluting essential oils is a critical safety practice when using essential oils.
#1
Big Pores. No Hair. The pores found on the bottom of your feet are particularly absorbent and can quickly pull the essential oils into the bloodstream. There are no hair follicles to slow down the application or absorption of the essential oil.
Plus, the soles of your feet have 5 layers of skin. Other parts of your body typically have 7 to 10 layers of skin.
When essential oils are applied to the feet, studies show that traces can be found throughout the entire body in less than 20 minutes!
Your skin is oily and the essential oils are "oils", therefore they can easily mix together and dissolve into one another (lipid soluble). Within just seconds they are penetrating the skin and entering the blood stream.
#2
What is Sebum? Sebum is produced by sebaceous glands all over the skin, it's an oily substance that functions as a protective shield and weakens the skin’s ability to absorb foreign materials.
The palms of your hands and soles of your feet do not have sebaceous glands, therefore there is no such barrier between the essential oils and your pores.
Your soles and palms are the only sites on your body without sebaceous glands.

Your feet got nerves! Your feet have around 72,000 nerve endings each! In fact, they contain more sensitive nerve endings per square centimeter than any other part of your body! Wow
USING ESSENTIAL OILS IN YOUR COOKING
You can only use essential oils that are safe to be taken internally.
A small amount of essential oil can make a huge impact on flavor in any dish. Keep in mind the following tips when using essential oils in your recipes:
Essential oils can be great substitutes for fresh herbs, citrus zest and juice, and spices such as oregano, lime juice, or ground clove.
Essential oils are potent. We recommend using only 1-2 drops at first, or even the toothpick method when cooking with essential oils: Stick a toothpick through the oil dropper to absorb the oil, then swirl the toothpick through wet ingredients. Give it a taste and gradually add more flavor to your liking.
Knowledge is key to a successful recipe. Always read the essential oil label before creating your tasty dishes.

INHALING ESSENTIAL OILS
Another way that essential oils enter the body is inhalation through the nose or mouth. Common examples include inhaling eucalyptus essential oil when you have a cough or inhaling peppermint essential oil to reduce fatigue or nausea. Often, essential oils are put into a diffuser for inhalation.
The Olfactory System
The olfactory system includes all physical organs or cells relating to, or contributing to, the sense of smell. When we inhale through the nose, airborne molecules interact with the olfactory organs and, almost immediately, the brain.
Molecules inhaled through the nose or mouth are also carried to the lungs and interact with the respiratory system. Thus, inhaled essential oils can affect the body through several systems and pathways.
Interaction with the Limbic System (Emotional Brain)
During inhalation, odor molecules travel through the nose and affect the brain through a variety of receptor sites, one of which is the limbic system, which is commonly referred to as the "emotional brain."
The limbic system is directly connected to those parts of the brain that control heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress levels, and hormone balance (Higley & Higley, 1998). This relationship helps explain why smells often trigger emotions. Knowing this, we can hypothesize how inhalation of essential oils can have some very profound physiological and psychological effects!
PRODUCTION OF ESSENTIAL OILS
Have you ever wondered about how to make essential oils?
Essential Oils are not made, but instead, they are extracted from plant materials. Extractions are used to obtain a plant’s active botanical constituents that function as its “life force.” They are essentially the liquefied version of a plant, and they effectively allow its beneficial compounds to reach the blood stream faster than they would by simply consuming the plant.
A process needs no synthetic chemicals. If this is the case then why most essential oils on the market CAN'T be taken internally.
