For many years I pitched science shows to large science networks and was unsuccessful. I would receive the feedback that "the majority of our audience is male, so we just don't know if they'd relate to a female host"
But last year, Netflix picked up our science show, Emily's Wonder Lab. I filmed the entire thing 9 months pregnant. So there is now a female-led science show on the biggest streaming platform in the world hosted by a pregnant woman - available world wide.
I'm just...so incredibly proud that my daughter will be able to watch this someday. When I was studying to become an engineer, I was one of 2 or 3 women in classrooms of 50 men. I'm hoping shows like this help change that demographic for her generation

A balanced sensory diet is important to all kids, not just those with sensory processing disorder, or on the autism spectrum. While most kids develop their 7 senses naturally -- think coordination, balance, gross and fine motor, and skills to ride bikes, skate, swim, play sports, music instruments -- the combination of electronic devices and quarantine may cause them to not get enough of the right physical activities.
Sensory Diet: Helping your child feel calm, alert, and organized!
What organism is neither plant nor animal, shares a trait with snowflakes and informs us about the air that we breathe?
Lichens. Lichen are small organisms commonly found throughout North America. Lichen are a combination of an algae and a fungus. The fungus provides a structure and protection for the algae to live in, while the algae provides food (via photosynthesis) for the fungus. Lichens are unlike any other organism on this planet and no two are alike, always growing in unique patterns.
Lichens, very different from trees and flowers that obtain nutrients from soil and rain, get the food they need directly from the air. The alga provides the fungus carbon and even fixes nitrogen for it. Gathering all their nutrients from the atmosphere allows lichen to grow almost anywhere. Because each lichen has a preference for how clean the air needs to be, they can be used as an important tool for measuring air quality.
