Most Valuable Idea from Dale Carnegie:
"an increased tendency to think always in terms of other people's point of view, and see things from their angle - if you get that one thing out of this book, it may easily prove to be one of the building blocks of your career."
If you want to see your athletes loyally fall in line, stop asking & get the belts out.
WWE belts.
Have a:
-Intercontinental Champion
-US Champion
-Tag Team Champion
-Group Champion
-World Champion
Regularly competing and crowning champions builds loyalty & community.
Athletic loyalty appears to be on life support.
I could be wrong.
Yet, we have systems that discourage it:
-Athletes in club/traveling
-Coaches up the ladder
-Parents as helicopters
-Hasty firings
-Roster turnover
-Player power
At this rate, we should pull life support.
Flow (n.) - optimal state of consciousness, a peak state where we both feel our best and perform our best.
It is a transformation available to anyone, anywhere, provided that certain initial conditions are met.
"Every gold medal or world championship that's ever been won, most likely, we now know, there's a flow state behind the victory."
-Michael Sachs, Temple University sports psychologist
The Kekambas hadn't seen the game played right.
So Coach O'neill (Keanu Reeves) brings them to their first MLB game where they see Sammy Sosa.
Coach got it right:
1. Brought them together.
2. Opened the factory doors.
3. Made them VIPs.
Multi-tool and moment loyalty.

In microflow, a few of the conditions are present.
In macroflow, 6-7+ are overwhelmingly present.
And anywhere in between.
Get to know the triggers generally at first, then which ones are most powerful for you.
Then, do the work to build your life around the activities.
Loyalty development on a team isn't a complicated recipe.
Bring equal parts flow, friends, and food together.
Mix thoroughly.
You get a Madden '24 tournament with food and a fire.
Loyalty simply wins.
"Most people live in a very restricted circle of their potential being.
They make use of a very small portion of their possible consciousness...much like a man who, out of his whole organism, should get into the habit of using and moving only his LITTLE FINGER." -William James
On a scale of 1-10, how much do you know about flow? As I read, anything you'd like to learn or know from an athlete, coach, parent perspective?
"Few doubt we became better players through what he taught, but most believe we became better human beings by HOW he taught." ~Swen Nater on John Wooden
Loyalty takes perspective, ariel perspective.
In art, it's the illusion of depth, seeing near & far.
In athletics, it's the vision of success, now & later.
Paint a picture of success w/ quick wins now & a long-term challenge later.
THAT depth & loyalty will be no illusion.
Instead of rolling my eyes as a coach at today's lingo, I'm leaning into it.
I'm asking myself:
-Which player's looking BOUJEE today?
-Was most BUSSIN' part of practice?
-Why is he being so EXTRA?
-What on film is SHOOK?
-Who should I VIBE CHECK?
There's loyalty in lingo.

Overall, would you say athletes are more or less loyal than in years past?
If you are looking to build a loyal team, stop rushing it.
You must have these 6 things:
1. Small wins
2. A common language
3. Regular get-togethers
4. A say in decisions
5. Playful nicknames
6. Customized memories
Loyalty is meant to be savored, not rushed.
No.
Who's on your teacher-coach Mt. Rushmore?
For John Wooden, it was:
1) Joshua Hugh Wooden, his father
2) Earl "Pop" Warner, his principal and coach
3) Glenn Curtis, his HS coach
4) Ward "Piggy" Lambert, his coach at Purdue
The Memory Manifesto from the Art of of Making Memories by Meik Wiking.
As we dig into this book for parents this month, how do we use these principles, these ingredients to make memories that last for ourselves and more importantly the athletes in our lives?
