Nice job, Donna!!! Looking forward to the PBS documentary's release (titled "Missed Conceptions").

Huge exposure to the issues associated with the absence of regulatory oversight in Assisted Reproductive Technology. This can be fixed with The Donor-Conceived Bill of Rights (www.peterjboni.com)

WILL SHE LEND HER VOICE TO ADVOCATE FOR REGULATORY CHANGE?

Kerry Washington reveals that she is a late-discovery product of an anonymous s***m donor. I understand. Revealing is also healing. https://conta.cc/48vetvw.

Over 1 million adults are donor-conceived. Most don't know it. When they do discover, the journey comes with a genuine dose of identity trauma.

In searching for a publisher for my tell-all expose` on the flaws of the multi-billion dollar Assisted Reproductive Technology industry (Uprooted: Family Trauma, Unknown Origins, and the Secretive History of Artificial Insemination), I was repeatedly told that if I had the weight of a celebrity voice, I'd be far more successful in advocating for legislation for a Donor-Conceived Bill of Rights. I'm not Jon Bon Jovi; rather Peter J. Boni. Welcome to the club no one wanted to join, Kerry Washington.

And I'm all ll for science to enable wanting people to have a family, with consideration for the very people the science creates...people like Kerry and me. No donor anonymity; required donor genetic testing & release of health history; limited number of offspring per donor; a sibling registry; mandated donor/recipient counseling about the needs of the donor-conceived, and legal consequences to blatant fertility fraud.

Breeding puppies enjoys better regulatory oversight.

Thank you, All Author, for the opportunity to interview.
https://allauthor.com/interview/peterjboni/

The more exposure to the flawed practices of the multi-billion dollar Assisted Reproductive Technology industry, the better the chances for change. No one should have 100+ siblings, all unknown to them, from an anonymous gamete donor, with no requirement for genetic testing or release of health history, no sibling registry, no mandate for donor or recipient counseling about the needs of the donor conceived, and no laws on the books to penalize blatant fertility fraud.

Support the Donor-Conceived Bill of Rights.

READERS FAVORITE BOOK AWARD: Social Issues

"Honorable Mention" is like coming in 4th. My publisher pointed out to me that over 4 million new books were published last year. 45% of them were non-fiction.

My mother often said: “You'll be judged by the the company you keep." I'm grateful for the recognition. Congrats to the top 3. We're all winners. (www.peterjboni.com)

Six years ago today, after 22 years of searching, I connected with a "close relative, first cousin?" on Ancestry's site. She championed finding the source of my seed in her family tree. For three intense weeks, we corresponded, spoke on the phone and researched. I'm still blown away by her call. "Are you sitting down?" Reborn!

To heal, I was compelled to reveal...in a book, Uprooted, after remaining fairly quiet for so long about the manner of my conception and what I had learned about the flaws of the unregulated industry which enabled it. (www.peterjboni.com)

Since then, a dozen friends and acquaintances have come to me seeking help to interpret their DNA results...most recently this week. My heart breaks each time I witness the disrupting trauma that comes with learning of NPE status, no matter the reason. My heart also fills with joy upon seeing the elation that comes with the surge of rebirth upon full discovery. I now empathetically relive the range of emotions of my own search and discovery with every situation.

While I used to do so silently. I've found that not to be healthy for me...so I'm sharing it. To recognize this sixth anniversary, after speaking on podcasts and to audiences around the country, I'm excited to share my story with a home audience...at my home town library...on Sept 14th.

WINNER, NATIONAL INDIE EXCELLENCE AWARD

Humbled to be among a top cadre of books recognized by NIEA. UPROOTED is not only a deeply intimate memoir, but it's also a historical narrative, as well as a tell-all expose` on the evolution of a multi billion dollar industry in need of deep reform.

To the fertility industry, people like me, the donor-conceived, are referred to as "a successful outcome." Never mind the trauma experienced by late discovery...their birth certificates and DNA don't line up; they have dozens, even hundreds, of unknown siblings; they have no idea of their genetics or health history; their donors & parents have no required counseling about their emotional well-being; no laws are in place to penalize blatant fertility fraud.

I'm all for science to enable wanting people to have a family...with some consideration for the very people the science creates. Advocating for a Donor-Conceived Bill of Rights. Breeding puppies enjoys greater legislative oversight.(www.peterjboni.com)

Clannad - I WIll Find You (Theme from The Last Of The Mohicans) (Live) 03/06/2023

This next week, I'm seeing a new sister (along with her whole family) who I met for the first time last year. This coming get together has rekindled my reflections of the fire of genealogical bewilderment which raged inside me for the full 22 years of my search to find the source of my seed.

In 1992, Clannad, an Irish group, wrote and recorded "I Will Find You" for the movie, "Last of the Mohicans." This haunting sound echoed in my head for 2+ decades and reverberates still as I wonder how many more siblings are out there yet to be discovered. Only those who have walked this walk really get it.

I was compelled to share my findings in a book (Uprooted). A legalized Donor-Conceived Bill of Rights will save countless Donor-Conceived from this haunt. Driven, still, to make a difference.

Consumer DNA testing has enabled a lesser time between discovery and revelation. But I'm sure that the intensity of the fire and the deepness of the haunt are recognizable by all misattributed, no matter the reason.

Clannad - I WIll Find You (Theme from The Last Of The Mohicans) (Live) Clannad performing live at Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin. The song 'I WIll Find You' was used as the 'Love Theme' in the movie 'The Last Of The Mohicans'.

THANK YOU, BOOKTRIB, FOR PROMOTING THAT UPROOTED BELONGS WITH SUCH AN ALL-STAR CAST.

What does it mean to belong? People of all ages from all backgrounds have found themselves pondering this question.

For many of us, a strong sense of self and identity begins at home. Our family — our first community — helps us determine the rules of society and how we fit in. In a happy and healthy household, you don’t have to change who you are to belong. No one can argue that how our family raises us has a big impact on how we identify as an adult. But for many who grew up in non-traditional families, the situation becomes more complicated.

What if you’re the product of illegal adoption, with no way to gain information about your birth parents? What if your family is very different from you, like in the case of in*******al or cross-continental adoption? What if you’re a child of the foster care system, and grow up without a steady family? What if, as an adult, you discover your family lied to you about your birth and where you came from?

Where, then, do you truly belong? Explore that very question, and unearth the complexities of family, genetics and identity.

Uprooted: Family Trauma, Unknown Origins, and the Secretive History of Artificial Insemination by Peter J. Boni
In this suspenseful memoir that reads like a mystery novel, one man shares his personal journey and acquired expertise to shed light on the scandalous evolution of artificial insemination and its consequences.

Just before his 50th birthday, long after the death of his father, Boni’s mother reveals a shocking secret: his father was not actually biological. He was conceived via artificial insemination using an anonymous s***m donor — the work of groundbreaking science back in 1945. This bombshell sends Boni’s life spiraling as it rekindles past traumas and sparks a relentless search to find out more about where he came from.

After two decades of meticulous research, modern technology catches up to Boni’s quest and shows him the answers he’s searched for. In Boni’s exploration of the history, culture, science and law of the assisted reproduction industry, he unveils the shady past of this multibillion-dollar industry, in hopes of improving the industry’s ethical practices.

Never mind ART "advances" that include internet distribution channels, offshoring of services (to include surrogacy), and fundamental trafficking of gametes from poor and disenfranchised Eastern Europeans.

THE LA TIME FESTIVAL OF BOOKS: DAY ONE…SOME EARLY OBSERVATIONS

MY SKILLS AS A CARNIVAL BARKER NEED MUCH POLISH!

My first book festival experience as an author came from the second largest book fare in the country, The Tucson Festival of Books at the University of Arizona. It was March, 2016. My first book, All Hands on Deck: Navigating Your Team Through Crises, Getting Your Organization Unstuck, and Emerging Victorious, included a case study on The University of Arizona’s then President, Dr. Ann Hart. By itself, that was my “in." No carnival huckstering needed, thank you very much. I built my consulting practice (Kedgeway LLC) around that book, and I was in my element…organizational leadership. The whole experience…the book launch and the consulting practice, were quite successful.

Fast forward seven years…The (by far) LARGEST book fair in the country, The LA Times Festival of Books at The University of Southern California, on April 22-23, 2023. As an author of my second book (this one an award-winner), Uprooted: Family Trauma, Unknown Origins, and the Secretive History of Artificial Insemination, I must admit, I'm in a new element…an advocate for regulatory oversight over a multi-billon dollar fertility industry…and speaking for the multitude of misattributed people who understand the trauma of late-discovery genetic identity. I have no “in” amongst the 1,000 other booths and authors who have been promoting their stuff.

In carnival fashion, many of this book fare's exhibitors employ the old fashioned huckster style to woo the thousands of passersby to hear their story. Mine was the DNA pull. Win a free DNA test in a raffle…thus giving me another mailing list to promote my book to interested would-be readers. Not my most successful venture by a long shot.

DIVERSE THEMES ABOUND

Sure, I expected to see books, authors, book sellers, publishing agents an alike. And I had expected protesters of something or other. There were a number of themes abound. One that caught my eye featured concerns about World War III. The pink-haired lady who was shrilly in her delivery while stomping on the American flag left a lot to be desired for my taste. A in messaging; F in delivery.

What I hadn’t expected in a million years was the Agency for Egg Donors and Surrogacy…at a book festival of all places!!! For the hell of it, I attempted to engage the agency's booth staff in conversation. My second failure on the same day! Speaking to a fertility industry regulatory advocate was far less interesting than whatever was on their smart phones.

USC IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE

The big old tree in front of the Alumni Center captured my interest. This was my first trip to USC’s campus since my son was a graduate student there . Gosh, that was thirty years ago! The Rodney King riots were in full swing, I wanted to charter a helicopter to do an extraction and get my son out of what looked like a combat zone. Today, what a beautifully peaceful campus.

The campus was also riddled with 85 degree bright sunshine, with very little shade. The 1,000 or so open-air canvas booths were all steamy hot. I dropped my pretension to look professional and opted to change into my gym shorts and sneakers, keeping my yellow polo shirt on in hopes that photography wouldn't show off my scarred legs in desperate need of a sun tan. Note the book signing picture with a fellow author…my only success on Day One.

TOMORROW IS ANOTHER DAY

I’m looking forward to Sunday’s meet-up to share experiences with several other Donor-Conceived People from Los Angelas. Only those who have walked this walk really get it. ….3PM at Johnny’s Pastrami, an apt name for an LA bar.

PREPARING FOR DONOR-CONCEPTION AWARENESS DAY

IT WAS A HUM-DINGER OF A WEEK @ TWISTED ROOTS
That's what my dad would have called it.

A flight from San Francisco to Louisville delayed and rerouted due to our 12th atmospheric river in as many weeks; a terrific Twisted Roots conference (so many great people sharing their NPE stories); a tornado nearby; and then a trip to Nashville, where we experienced The Grand Ole Opry and my new favorite bar, "The Lucky Bastard Saloon." We got out of town just before the next tornado threat.

NEXT STOP: LOS ANGELAS

Come join me. I've accepted an invitation to attend the LA Times Festival of Books at USC in Los Angelas April 22-23. Thereafter, I'm staying on Cape Cod for "the season."

IS A HUMAN BODY PART MORE VALUABLE THAN THE HUMAN?

The value of all the parts that make up an automobile adds up to so much more than the value of a whole automobile, fully assembled and delivered. How about human beings?

The government has just announced a move to modernize and overhaul organ donation practices. Can the conception of a human being be also given some degree of regulatory oversight in the name of the public good? Since when is the ethics of harvesting a heart, lung, kidney or other body part of a human being more important than the ethical conception of a human being via assisted reproductive technology?

S***m? Eggs? Embryos? Surrogacy? Fertility tourism? Third world trafficking of eggs? Exploitation? Exportation? Genetic testing? Health history? Donor anonymity...still... with 21st Century DNA? Sibling registry? Limits to the number of offspring per donor? Federal penalties for blatant fertility fraud? Mandated counseling re the needs of the Donor-Conceived? Health impact of long-frozen gametes and embryos? Synthetic gametes/embryos? Cloning? Internet cataloging of gamete donors with no screening? The free flow of money? The absence of any regulatory body to provide oversight with real rules and regulations for the public good.

All issues put forth (with a fix) in panel discussion with experts in Louisville March 29-April 1. Join us!!! (www.untanglingourroots.org))

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Could not put it down. The author, Peter J. Boni is inspirational in more ways than simply ofering how the psyche is thrust into the unknown, inhaling the journey's often bumpy road while offering enlightenment for those navigating their way in whatever direction they find themselves propelled.

I found it very helpful to absorb the background of Mr. Boni's early military experience which influenced his astute leadership in numerous venues. His acquired people-skills, extraordinary C- Suite level stewardship of numerous businesses, ultimately helped shape and nurture his success at getting to the bottom of his origins, despite the road-blocks, secrecy, years passed, and obstacles he faced. Very relatable to anyone, especially for those with DNA conception issues from all walks of life. Every human has a right to their medical history- yet, so many simply do not have answers or have the wrong answers.

In essence, this book covers the range of genre's. Mystery, Historical (on so many levels!), Action, Drama, Comedy, so kept me enthralled. Strongly recommended as a great read for anyone; especially for the DNA surprised Donor Conceived, while definitely relatable to the NPE,(Non- Parent Expected or Non Parental Event, or Misattributed Parentage Event - MPE) as well as relatives, loved ones, therapists involved in relationship counseling and personal growth, because the whole gamut of emotions is involved in this high tech world we live in, where more questions are created than answers to be had .

There is no doubt, in the wake of DNA affecting every aspect of our lives, from cradle to grave, not the least of which we will benefit by personalized health via chemistry, we are modern pioneers, blazing our emotional way through shock, disbelief, grief, exploring, denial to acceptance and more. For what it's worth, that's just one spectrum of any individual's life, not to mention the other connected lives related or no longer, in the realm of social cultural, spiritual or religious spectrums, accepted by one or none.

More so, for the curious minded, there are significant ethical, socio-economic, National and global issues- historical, current, and on-going, informally, legally, that should and are being addressed offering a very a very intelligent deep-dive.

DNA stimulated active conversation within my. New Zealand tour group over the past two weeks. Major parties were the venues for unlikely discussion.

In the middle of a commemoration of a Feb 3, 1931 earthquake that pummeled Napier but allowed it’s 1931-33 rebuilding as an Art Deco meca and a national holiday to celebrate the Feb 6, 1840 signing of a Māori treaty with the Crown…….A New Zealander declared he was a proud known s***m donor. That opened the gates!

A retired midwestern doctor guiltily admitted he was an anonymous s***m donor several times ($100 a pop) while attending Univ of Washington Med School in 1980. An Atlanta couple with a “single mom by choice” confessed angst for their granddaughter from an anonymous s***m donor. Would she have 100 siblings, all unknown to her? A woman from New Jersey experienced a happy contact from the now grown child she had given up for adoption at age 16. Others joined in conversation. Of course, i mentioned my book!

“Uprooted” had attracted a readership of interested parties who had no previous understanding of what it was to be “misattributed.”

It’s gratifying to see my book adding to the visibility of an industry that needs an overhaul, while also speaking to the emotional needs and well being of all misattributed people! (www.peterjboni.com)
