Rescued refugees: Optimistic about future despite past

Global DIRT's final mission in the Mediterranean for the year as the weather becomes less suitable for migrants to attempt the crossing out of Libya. For the past quarter DIRT had deployed personnel to staff the LifeBoat Minden, a search and rescue vessel staged 12 miles off the coast of Tripoli.

Our rescue experts have assisted those in distress in direct coordination with Maritime Rescue Coordination Center - Rome, the Italian Coast Guard, the Spanish Navy, MSF, MOAS, and other INGOs. In 2015 nearly 1 out of every 250 people died attempting the crossing to Europe from North Africa, in 2016 that number has risen to more than 1 out of every 74. In the last mission alone Global DIRT rescued over 900 persons adrift at sea.
